The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance)

Chapter 48

Erika is a strong, positive, and amazing shewolf. She has been my anchor here, and she inspires me more than she knows. I know she’ll do well.

I scan the area until my eyes land on a small rock behind a massive stone pillar. Erika is sitting there with her face buried in her lap.

There she is,I whisper.

Amara, Isolde, and I walk toward her. As we get closer, Erika raises her head. I pause, my heart sinking at the sight of her tearstained face. Her eyes look

red and puffy, she looks like she’s been crying for a long time. I reach her and crouch down, placing a hand on her knee.

Erika? Are you okay?I ask softly.

Erika sniffs and stays quiet for a moment. Her shoulders shake with a suppressed sob. Slowly, she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a crumpled piece of

paper. She straightens it out on her lap so we can see it.

The bold letters at the top of the page read: FAILED first wolf assESSMENT TEST. ON PROBATION FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS.

My heart fills with sadness for my friend. I reach out and pull her into a sidehug. ErikaI’m so, so sorry.

This was it, Lyra,Erika sniffles, her voice breaking. This was my one chance to prove to my family and the pack that I’m not a failure. But I blew it. I

tried to fight back but it didn’t work. Then I panicked and ran.

I try to speak, to tell her it’s okay, but she stops me with a shake of her head.

The Professor told me that because I’m on probation, I can’t choose my own dorm, she says, her words coming out in a rush. I have to stay in the General

Hall. The rooms there are tiny like prison cells. I can’t choose my own programs, and I’m barred from all academy events and parties until I pass in two

weeks. I’m completely useless, just like those bullies said I was.

She bursts into fresh tears, and I hug her tightly, resting my chin on her shoulder. I try my best to make her feel better. There is still time, Erika. You aren’t

useless. You just had a bad day. You’ll pass in two weeks, I know it,

Amara and Isolde join in, offering their own words of encouragement. She’s right, EriAmara says. Two weeks is nothing. We’ll help you study. We’ll help

you train.

Isolde nudges Erika’s shoulder. I think we should cheer you up. We should go get some food. A plate of pasta will definitely get you in better spirits. Carbs

are the best medicine for a sad day.

We all agree. I pull Erika up from the rock, keeping my arm around her as we make our way out of the Proving Grounds and toward the cafeteria.

We are walking along the main hall when a voice calls iny name. Lyra,

I turn around and see Prince Roman a few feet away. He’s looking handsome in a thick black jacket that makes his eyes stand out, My breath catches when I notice he’s holding a single, perfect ¡ed rose.

I can already hear Amara and Isolde whispering excitedly behind me. Is that really Prince Roman? Why is he looking at us?

Roman stops in front of me, a warm, genuine smile on his face. My face heats up when I notice everyone around us is watching. He ignores the staring crowd and focuses entirely on me.

Congratulations on passing your test, Lyta,he says.

1 blink, stunned. How do you know that already?

Every student who passed just had their name uploaded to the new student roster,he explains. He holds out the rose toward me. Wanted to give you this.

I was also hoping I could take you somewhere nice around the academy to celebrate your success. You’ve had a hard few weeks. You deserve a win.

My friends gasp behind me. I stare at the rose, then at Roman’s handsome face, completely surprised.

Is he really serious? I look at him, trying to see if he’s just messing with me, but that hopeful smile stays on his face.

Sowill you go out with me Lyra?
