The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Lyra

I stare at Roman for what feels like forever. I wonder if he is actually serious or if this is some kind of prank. He keeps staring at me with an expectant look,

holding the rose as if it’s the most precious thing in the world.

UmI start, the word hanging in my throat.

I feel Amara nudge my shoulder from behind. She is practically vibrating with excitement, signaling for me to say yes. For a second, I have the urge to look around the hall. I’m afraid Prince Kai will pop up out of nowhere and punish me. He warned me to stay away from his cousin, and Kai isn’t the type of

person who gives idle threats.

But then, a spark of confidence in my chest. You know what? I don’t care what that pompous Prince does to me anymore. I am tired of being afraid. If I keep

letting him lord over me and dictate who I can speak to, I will be miserable for the rest of my stay here. I’m a full student frow. I passed the test. I deserve a

moment of happiness.

I look up at Roman and let a bright smile spread on my face. I’d love to,I say.

Roman looks visibly relieved immediately. He steps closer, closing the gap between us as he leans down and kisses my cheek softly. His lips are warm, and

the gesture is so sweet it makes my face flush a deep shade of red.

I hear people gasp and someone lets out a loud whistle. I even hear the clicking of a camera, taking pictures. My heart sinks for a moment because I

know what that means. This kind of attention will only bring me trouble. If this ends up on the academy’s social feed, Daisy and Ryan will definitely see it.

And if they see it, they will want to cause problems for me.

Roman doesn’t seem to care about the drama. He just smiles at me. I’ll see you later tonight, Lyra.

He turns and walks away, giving a polite nod and hito my friends. Amara and Isolde giggle like schoolgirls, clearly charmed by him. Only Erika remains

silent, her face looking down cast like before.

I turn back to my friends, trying to shake off the nerves. I walk over to Erika and try to lighten her mood as I give her a playful nudge. Hey, wipe off that

long face. Let’s go get that pasta.

Erika doesn’t smile. She turns to me with a sneer that makes my stomach flip.

It’s easy for you to say that, isn’t it?Her voice is cold and dripping with sarcasm. You luckily passed your test while I’m on probation. And now you’re

getting asked out by one of the most popular students in the academy. I hope you feel special now, Lyra. You have all the attention you’ve ever wanted,

don’t you?

Her voice sounds bitter and malicious. I step back, completely speechless. I stare at her, wondering where this version of Erika came from.

This isn’t the girl who comforted me or the girl who inspired me. This person looks like she hates me.

Amara immediately steps in front of me, her eyes flashing with anger. Why the fuck are you talking to her like that, Erika? Is she not supposed to be your

friend?

Erika scoffs and rolls her eyes. She looks at Amara and Isolde with pure hatred. Oh, please. I know why you two are hanging around her. You’re just kissing her ass because she somehow has access to the Prince and the Princess. You think if you stick close to the slave, you’ll get invited to the royal wing.

Isolde explodes. You bitch! She lunges forward, raising her hand up to slap Erika but I stop her.

Guys Lyell

I move faster than I thought I could and step between them, catching Isolde’s wrist and blocking her before she can make contact. The physical tension in the hallway is thick enough to choke on. Other students are starting to stop and stare at the scene. Damn it!

Fucking stop it! All of you!I scream.

My voice echoes off the walls. I look at Erika, but she doesn’took sorry. She looks at me like I’m the enemy. I feel a lump forming in my throat. I just

wanted one good day. I wanted to celebrate my win with the people I thought were my new family.
