The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 60

Chapter 60

When the sound of the door unlocking clicks through the room, I immediately bolt upright. Adrenaline washes through me, and I! quickly grab my pillow, squeezing it in front of my chest like a shield. I know it won’t actually stop a Lycan, and I probably look ridiculous, but I don’t care. I am ready to fight Kai until my last breath. I won’t let him lock me away like some hardened criminal without a struggle.

As the door pushes open, I lean forward, ready to lunge or throw whatever I can. But I freeze when I see the figure in the doorway,

It isn’t Kai.

Princess Kara walks in, her expression soft and full of worry. The moment I realize it’s her, I drop the pillow and let out a long. shaky breath of relief. My eyes start to get teary again just looking at her. She walks quietly toward the bed and pulls me

into a

tight, sisterly hug.

“I am so sorry, Lyra,” she whispers. “I heard what happened.”

I clean my tears with the back of my hand and hug her back just as tightly. I’m so grateful she is here. “I love you, Kara.” I tell her. still crying. “But I hate your brother so much. He is an evil monster. He’s cruel and he’s insane.”

Kara pulls back and looks at me sadly. She reaches out to tuck a loose strand of silver hair behind my ear. “I know Kai can be harsh and irrational sometimes, Lyra. Trust me, I know. But situations made him that way. Deep down, my brother is not an evil person.”

She looks genuinely pained as she says it. I stare at her, wondering what kind of situation could possibly turn a person into someone this cold and heartless. What could have happened to him to make him enjoy tormenting people this much?

Just then, I hear the sound of conversations from the living room. My heart begins to race, and my body goes stiff. I know that

voice. Kai is out there.

Kara notices my panic and squeezes my hand. “Calm down, Lyra. He won’t do anything while I’m here.”

“Kara, please,” I whisper, grabbing her hand. “Can I go to your apartment? just for a while? Please

Kara looks uncertain, glancing nervously toward the door. I can see she’s trying to decide if it’s worth the risk. I keep a firm hold on her hand, as if it’s the only thing keeping me grounded. “I’ll lose my mind if i stay in this room. I know that if you insist, he’ll let me go with you. Please don’t leave me here.”

Kare sight, her gaze softening. Finally, she nods. “Okay. Let’s

hug her happily, feeling a spark of hope finally return to my chest. She takes my hand and leads are out of the bedroom

stops him and holds him back with a firm hand on his shoulder.

Kara doesn’t even flinch. She glares at her brother and stands her ground. “Lyra is my friend, Kai. I won’t allow you to lock her up in a dark room just because you can’t get over your petty jealousy.”

I almost want to laugh at the word “jealousy.” Kai could never be jealous of someone like me. He is simply a cruel man who sees

everyone as an object to be controlled.

Kara continues in a firm voice. “She is going to stay with me for a while. Besides, she passed her assessment today! She has the

right to choose where she stays in the academy now. You can’t legally keep her here.”

Kai’s jaw clenches so hard I can see the muscles jumping. He looks like he’s vibrating with suppressed rage. Damon looks between

us in confusion.

“Congratulations for passing, by the way, Lyra,” Damon says, breaking the heavy silence.

I give him a small, weary smile. “Thank you, Damon.”

“Okay, see you boys later,” Kara says. She doesn’t give Kai a chance to argue further. She pulls me toward the front door, her grip

firm and protective.

I don’t even have to look at Kai to know he is boiling over. I can feel the heat of his gaze on my back, but for the first time, I feel a sense of satisfaction. It feels good to know he’s frustrated. It feels good to know he didn’t win this round.

Good for the bastard.
