The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62

I feel a huge wave of nervousness wash over me. I’m a wolfless girl about to step into a ring with a bunch of trained killers who can tap into their beasts. This isn’t just a game. For me, this is a fight for survival. I pack my bag with trembling hands, wondering if I’ll even make it out of the arena in one piece.

As we all change into our combat gear, my thoughts drift to Erika. I can’t help but think about how badly she wanted to be here. She talked about the arena games from the moment I met her, and now she’s stuck in a study hall because she didn’t pass her first test. I feel a heavy weight of sadness for her as I pull on my vest over my chest.

“I wish she’s here,” I mutter to myself, adjusting the straps.

I also wish she’d stop avoiding me. Ever since our fight, she has practically been a ghost. I think she feels ashamed of what she said,

but her absence makes me feel even more alone. I can’t force her to talk to me, though. I have to let her/have her space. Hopefully

she’ll be back to her normal self by the end of the week. I look at my reflection in the locker room mirror.

As we walk into the wide arena, the smell of sand and sweat hits me. Amara walks up to me and gives me a quick, tight hug.

“Good luck, Lyra. You’ve got this,” she says, trying to sound encouraging.

“Where’s Isolde?” I ask, looking around.

“She’s sick,” Amara sighs. “She couldn’t even get out of bed this morning. She took permission and is staying in the dorm.”

“Tell her I hope she’s well soon,” I say. Amara kisses my cheeks as thank you.

When we reach the combat spot, Professor Vane stands by a small table with

“Listen up!” Vane shouts. Today we test your grit. It will be the he-wolves versus the she-wolves. The males will pick names from this lucky box. Whoever they pick is their opponent.”

“What?” I whisper to Amara. “Why can’t we just fight whoever we want? This isn’t fair.”

“It’s about dominance, Lyra,” Amara whispers back with a frown. “They want to see if the females can hold their own against the raw strength of the males.”

We watch silently as the guys step up one by one.

Chapter 62

“Lyra Diamond.”

I look up and see Salva Delvin standing there, holding my name card. Salva is one of the most notorious level-one bullies. He’s huge, with a rough scar over his eye and a mean spirit to match. He looks absolutely menacing as he tosses the card onto the table.

He looks at me and a wicked, yellow-toothed smile spreads across his face. “Oh, my partner is the wolfless diamond thief?” he

mocks, making sure everyone hears him. “I’m gonna have so much fun breaking you in half today.”

The arena fills with the sound of laughter from the other boys and some girls.

“You better shut the fuck up, Salva!” Amara yells, gripping my hand so tight until her knuckles are white.

Salva just scoffs, stepping closer to us. “Or what? You gonna bark at me? The little slave needs to learn her place.”

My eyes burn with tears of anger, but I refuse to let them fall. I am not going to give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry. I have been bullied by a Prince, I won’t be broken by a common thug like Salva. I will fight this bastard until my last breath if I have to.

I step forward, pulling my hand out of Amara’s grip. I look him right in the eye and force a cold smile onto my face.
