Chapter 64
Lyra, wake up..’ The voice calls to me from deep within my subconscious. It sounds far away, echoing through a thick, suffocating fog. My head throbs with a pain that makes every thought feel like a needle prick. I try to move, but my limbs feel like lead, weighed down by something I can’t shake off. The air around me feels thin and harsh, and just taking a shallow breath hurts.
The darkness feels warm. It feels safe. I want to give in to it, to just let the silence take over and stop the hurting. But that voice won’t let me. It keeps resounding in my head, sharper now, more insistent. It calls my name over and over again, vibrating through
the numbness.
‘Lyra! Lyra! Wake up!’ The moment I recognize the voice as Wyndra’s, Something sparks inside me, like a spark/of electricity hitting
a dead nerve. I force myself to look away from the darkness and scramble back toward the light. I open my eyes with a loud gasp
and the bright arena burns my eyes.
That’s when I realize I’m still lying flat on the ground, where Salva’s last punch dropped me. My jaw is screaming with pain, and I
can taste blood in my mouth. That’s when I hear the countdown from the arena speakers.
“Lyra Diamond will automatically yield in 5… 4…”
The countdown is almost at its end. If it hits zero, I’m out. I’ll be the girl who stayed down. I’ll be the slave who couldn’t handle a
single round.
“3…
I force my trembling arm up. “No!” I shout. My voice is raspy and raw, but it’s loud enough to cut through the noise of the crowd. I signal with my hand that I won’t yield, not yet.
Everyone gaps the moment they realize I’m not out. I can hear the shock in the murmurs of the students. No one expected the wolfless girl to get back up after a hit like that. I roll onto my side, my ribs groaning with every movement, and slowly drag myself off the floor, My knees shake so hard that for a second, I think I might vomit, but I plant my feet firmly on the ground and stand
tall.

Princess Kara’s voice rings out from the gallery. I slightly turn my head and see her leaning over the railing with a bright, triumphant smile on her face. She looks relieved, her eyes shining with pride. I manage to give her a small smile back, feeling a bit

Chapter 64
He hasn’t moved an inch from where he was standing before. He stares at me with an unreadable, heated look in his forest-green
eyes. It’s intense, like he’s trying to burn right through me to see what’s keeping me upright. There is something dark and heavy in
his expression, a silent pressure that makes my face heat up without permission. I quickly look away, unable to hold his gaze for
more than a second.
I turn my focus back to Salva. He steps toward me, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles are white.
“You’re a fool, Diamond,” he hisses in a taunting voice. “You should have stayed down. Now I’m just going to have to break more of your bones. I’ll make sure you can’t walk out of this arena.”
As I face him, I feel a strange sense of calm wash over me. My face aches and my vision is still a little blurry, but I don’t back down. A 1 force a smile, even though it hurts my broken lip.
