The Lycan Prince’s Wolfless Slave (Academy Romance) novel Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Lyra

The arena goes dead silent as the king walks in. His gaze is fixed on me, and he looks absolutely terrifying. I can’t believe the king

of Lycanthropy was watching me fight. We all watch as King Geo walks up onto the fighting platform.

He’s wearing an attire that looks more like a war uniform, but the golden crown on his head speaks of powerful royalty.

“Lyra, is it? Come here, child.” King Geo commands. My entire body jumps at his voice directed at me. What does he want with me?

I’m a nobody. I’m a slave. Why is the king interested in me in the slightest bit?

I look up at the gallery, my eyes finding Prince Kai. He’s standing perfectly straight now, his face is hard with tension. He catches my eye and gives me a single, sharp nod. He wants me to walk toward his father.

own ragged breathing.

“It is good that she fears her master more than her King,” the King says in a joking tone as I stop a few feet away from him. My face heats up in shame at his demeaning words.

I don’t really know what to say, so I just stay quiet. I bow down low, almost touching my forehead to the ground. Before I can straighten up, the tip of his staff hooks under my chin and forces my head back. His eyes are cold and sharp, like he’s scanning my face just to read a grocery list.

“Tell me, girl,” he says, his voice low and raspy. “How did a wolfless slave find the skills to disarm an opponent twice her size? A

General’s son, no less.”

I struggle to keep my voice steady even though the pain in my jaw makes it so hard to speak. “I just listened to what the professor said in the lecture, Your Majesty. About finding an opening. About using the opponent’s momentum against them.”

The King nods his head thoughtfully. He taps his staff on the stone floor. “Hmm. That’s quiet iive.”

“Thank you, your highness.”

“Then you would not mind having

a combat match with me, would you?”

What?

I hear the collective gasps of shock. The students in the front begin to murmur among themselves.

I feel like I can’t breathe. He is the most powerful Lycan in existence, and he wants to spar with me? This is not a request. It has to be a death sentence. I stare at him, speechless.

Chapter 66

‘Wyn? Help me! What should I do? I can fight the fucking king!”

Wyndra’s voice comes to my mind a second later. ‘I really don’t know, Lyra! I think you have no choice but to fight the king. If you

refuse his request, he could have you thrown in the dungeon for it.’

Oh Goddess. Help me.

“Well?” he asks, his patience clearly wearing out. “I am waiting for an answer.”

Before I can say anything, I notice a shadow blocking my view. Kai suddenly rushes out of the gallery, moving unbelievably fast He stands right in front of me, blocking me from his dad’s line of sight. His back is like a wall of solid muscle.

“Stop this, Father,” Kai says to his father. The heavy silence that follows feels charged with unspoken threats, each side weighing

their next move.

The King narrows his eyes, his lips curling into a mocking smile.

“It seems your infamous slave is special to you, Kai,” the King says. “Instead of being in the dungeon or underground with a severed head for her crimes, she is part of the Academy. She is even beating up one of my General’s sons. Wow.”
