King’s orbit, away from the General’s son, and into the safety of Kara’s room.

I reach the hallway and lean against the cool stone wall to catch my breath. My mind races.

Why did the King want me? Does he know about Wyndra? I grip my arms, trying to calm down, but my skin still feels like it is buzzing with that strange energy.

I think back to the fight. I think about how easy it was to move. I wasn’t just fast, I was more than fast. I was precise. My body

moved before I even told it to. And it was all Wyn’s doing.

I reach Kara’s door and knock with trembling hands. When the door opens, I see Kara’s worried face. She pulls me inside

immediately and locks the door behind us.

“Kai already told me you’re coming here,” she says, her voice barely a whisper. “I’m sorry about my father, Lyra. But I think he

sensed something about you.”

I collapse into a chair and put my head in my hands. “I…what could he want with me? I’m practically wolfless! Or am I in trouble

Kara sighs and stands up to grab a cloth and some cool water. She starts to dab at the split skin on my lip and my forehead. “We will figure it out. But you have to stay here. Don’t step foot out of this room until I say it’s safe.”
