Chapter 69
My father doesn’t look at him. He keeps his gaze locked on me, his eyes dark and unreadable. When he finally turns, he gives Richard a wicked smile that makes my skin crawl. “I would like to know how the new level-one student, Lyra Diamond, got admitted
into the Academy.”
Richard pales instantly. He looks like a man who has just been handed his own death warrant. He glances at me, then back at the
King, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. “Well, she… she…”
I release a sharp, frustrated sigh and step forward, putting myself between the King and the terrified principal. “I made him do it, Father,” I say in a steady voice. “I personally ordered Richard to admit Lyra. I wanted to give her a chance to train. I thought that if she was put in a high-pressure environment, her wolf might finally appear.”
My father stares at me really hard. The silence feels heavy and suffocating. He looks like he can’t believe I actually dared to admit it to his face. I hold his stare, refusing to look away. I know admitting this will likely cost Richard his job, or worse, but I don’t regret it. Even if she doesn’t have a wolf, it’s clear to anyone with eyes that she’s special. She’s something the Academy has never seen
before.
My father suddenly bursts out laughing loudly enough to shake the office windows. He then turns to Richard, his face shifting from scary to kind of amused. “Is that so? My son forced you to admit a wolfless girl into the Academy? Which means she didn’t take any initial tests or proper evaluations, right?”
Richard nods quickly, sweat dripping down his forehead. He bows so low that his nose almost touches the ground. “Yes, Your Majesty. I tried to advise Prince Kai against it. I told him it was against the protocol, but he insisted. He would not take no for an
answer.”
My father walks over and places a heavy hand on Richard’s shoulder. The principal flinches, but he doesn’t pull away. “Do not worry, Richard,” my father says, his tone filled with fake warmth. “It is not your fault. I know very well that my son is strong-willed and stubborn. He has always been difficult.”
He turns back to me, still wearing that chilling smile. “Resta

In a split second, my father’s expression changes. Before Richard can even blink, my father’s fingers extend, his fingernails lengthening into long, jagged claws. With a lightning speed movement, he buries his hand deep into Richard’s chest.
Richard lets out a strangled gasp. His eyes bulge out in shock, and blood begins to stream from his shirt, staining the front of his uniform dark red. The sound of flesh tearing fills the small room.
I don’t think about it, I just react instantly, slamming my band onto my father’s wrist and holding onto his arm with every ounce of power I have to stop him from pushing deeper. If he pushes his claws even a little more, he’ll puncture Richard’s heart, and the guy will be dead b. sore he even hits the floor.

I partially shift into my Lycan form. My hand gets thicker, covered in rough, dark hair, and my nails turn into sharp, beast-like claws just like his. I push with all my might to hold him back, digging my feet into the floorboards until they crack under the pressure. I can feel the heat of his fury vibrating through his arm. He’s not holding anything back, and I am the only thing standing between
