How fucking dare you try to stop me from removing his heart?!” My father’s voice booms, shaking the office walls. He glares at me, his eyes burning with pure fury.
I don’t move away, still keeping my half-shifted hand locked around his wrist. My claws are buried into his forearm, and my muscles
scream from the pressure of holding him back. “I won’t let you kill someone for something I caused,” I yell. “If you want to punish
someone, punish me! Me!”
Richard is gasping, his face turning a scary shade of gray. With every second my father’s claws are in his chest, the man’s life force drains away. His entire body weight is hanging from the arm my father has buried inside him. I try to drag my father’s arm
backward, but he’s too strong. He hasn’t even broken a sweat.
My father flashes a cruel smile. “So, because you’re blessed with double my strength, you think you can stop me from doing
whatever I want? Me? The King?”
“Let him go,” I growl.
My father’s eyes lock onto mine. Before I can react, I hear a bone-crunching 1. Richard screams, a sound of pure agony. Tears
stream down his face as his body jolts in shock. My father used his free hand to grab Richard’s left arm, and with one swift, brutal jerk, he ripped it completely from his shoulder.
What the…
Blood splatters all over the desk. I keep yelling at him to stop until my voice is raw, but he just laughs right in my face.
Stop being such a fucking pussy, Kai!” my father roars. “If you don’t step aside, it will be your precious slave having her pathetic heart ripped out of her chest instead!”
I freeze at his words. The world seems to tilt on its axis. I stare at him, my vision/blurring with red-hot rage. I’d kill him. I swear to the gods, I would tear his throat out if he so much as touched a hair on Lyra’s head.
You wouldn’t dare, I hiss.
My father laughs again. You have no ide

My heart drops. Fear grips my chest, making it hard for me to breathe. How does he know she’s with Kara? The thought of his guards standing outside that room, waiting to kill her, makes my stomach turn.
“If you don’t let go of me in the next five seconds,” my father continues in a deadly calm tone, “I will open my mind link and order them to rip he apart, piece by piece. Starting with her heart.”

Chapter 70
Panic, anger, and absolute frustration claw at my insides. I am fucking trapped. I know my father better than anyone. He is a
ruthless tyrant, and he isn’t bluffing. He would kill Lyra in a heartbeat just to teach me a lesson.
Richard looks at me, his eyes wide and fading, begging and hopeful, pleading for me to save him from this doom.
“ONE MORE SECOND!” my father yells, his voice echoing in the small room.
I glance at Richard, noticing the tears, how his body’s battered, and the life fading from him.. I know he’s already as good as dead because of the damage my father has already done, but if I stay, Lyra follows him to the grave.
I shut my eyes tight, hearing only Richard’s ragged breathing.
I am sorry. I whisper the apology under my breath, but he can’t hear me.
I withdraw my hand.
The moment I pull away, my father yanks his arm back with brutal force, dragging Richard’s heart out of his chest. Richard’s eyes go completely blank, and his body slumps to the floor like a sack of meat.
He’s dead.
I stare down at his body, feeling pain and anger that I couldn’t save him. He’s lying limply on the floor, staring off somewhere beyond the ceiling. The life has completely drained out of him. My father sighs, genuinely content, as he

That wasn’t so hard now, was it?” he asks.
My whole body is shaking with barely contained anger. My fists are so tight that my nails are digging into my palms, and I have to concentrate all my willpower just to stop myself from attacking him. Vlad is screaming in my head, a wild, animal-like roar of rage.
