Chapter 9

I can’t deny that she’s right even though I don’t want to become a slave for such a terrifying creature. If it means I’ll be at the academy and have a chance to train so my wolf can be strong enough to appear, then this might be a blessing in disguise…right?

“Very well, your highness.” Alpha Rafa and Luna Sarah reply simultaneously.

My thoughts fade as Prince Kai extends his hand, waiting for me to take it so he can pull me up. I glance at his large, veiny fingers for a moment before grasping it. The instant I make contact, an electric shock surges through my entire body, causing me to jerky upright on unsteady knees.

I feel my face heat up when I stumble into him. He just smiles casually at me, like he’s enjoying my flustered state.

I clear my throat and attempt to say a word. “Um…your highness, I…”

“You have five minutes to pack whatever you want to and meet me outside. Okay?” Prince Kai cuts in. He tells one of his guards to follow me to my room. I don’t bother looking at my family as I walk away. They might as well be dead to me.

It doesn’t even take me up to five minutes to pack up a small bag and fill it up with the few good clothes that I own, along with my books and a few essential things like my sponge and tooth brush.

I stare at my small, shabby room for a long time. This place has been my home as long as I can remember. It’s not special, but at

least I was safe inside these four walls.

A sudden knock on my door snaps me out of my thoughts. I turn to see Uncle Cassian standing silently by the

“Uncle!” I rush to his open arms, hugging him tightly. How could I forget my uncle, the only one who’s ever cared about me? I’ll

miss him so much. I’m unable to stop the tears from rushing out of my eyes.

“Hey there, bug,” he pulls me back and stares into my eyes, smiling softly at me. He gently cleans my tears off my face. “I only came to say goodbye. There’s no need for the tears, bug.”

“I’ll miss you so much, uncle.”

“Likewise, bug. But this is a good thing, okay? I’m so glad you’re finally getting out of here.”

“But I’m going somewhere even worse, uncle. I’ll be a slave to someone so cruel. What if I don’t survive it?”

Uncle Cassian gently holds my face. “Lyra, promise me one thing. That you won’t ever doubt yourself. The Lycans do not ever forgive. But for some reason, Prince Kai insisted on not having you killed. That means something. So don’t you ever give up, okay? Keep that fighting spirit of yours, and all this may just turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to you.”

I nod my head at him. He pulls me in for one more hug and drops a kiss on my head. “I love you, child.”

“I love you too, uncle.” I hug him tighter.

Chapter 9

After I said my goodbyes to my uncle and a few of the servants that I liked, I’m finally in front of the Lycan Prince, ready to follow him to my room.

As we approach his car, I notice that he’s the only one still waiting. The other Royals have left, just him remaining. I notice there’s a sleek car, instead of the horses they arrived with earlier.

wow, so this is what cars look like. The fact that I’ve never ridden a horse or entered a car is laughable. All I’ve ever done is work at the pack house.

Prince Kai opens the car door then stretches his hand out to me to follow him.

This is it.

This is the moment my life changes forever.
