I don’t understand why I keep finding myself in the middle of drama, especially amongst the royals. All I just wanted was to have fun at the wolf event with my girls, but look at what’s happening right now.

I’m aware of several hundreds of gazes that are trained on us and wish the ground could suddenly open up and swallow me whole.

“Roman! Please!” My voice is a desperate whisper as I try to get him to leave before Kai makes the whole situation go from bad to worse. “Just leave. I’ll… talk to you later, okay?”

Before Roman can answer, Kai steps forward and grabs my hand in his. “She won’t talk to you later, or any other time, cousin. Do you understand?”

My heart thumps so hard in fear as Roman stares at Kai for a long, silent and tense moment. Then he turns to me and gives me a small smile before he turns and walks away. Oh thank goddess.

I immediately heave a sigh of relief, thankful that the tension has dissipated. People around something crazy to happen.

“Well, that was fun.” Kai’s Beta comments, clapping his friend’s shoulder. “I’ll be at the champagne bar, Kai. See you Lyra.”

The moment I realize I’m finally alone with Prince Kai, my heart starts to beat fast against my ribs. The proximity is overwhelming. I awkwardly bow my head, trying to find an escape route, and turn to leave. But Kai isn’t having it. Before I can take a single step, his hand snaps out and grabs my waist, pulling me hard against him.

I let out a gasp of shock as I hit his chest. My hands instinctively fly up to his chest to steady myself. I look up at him, and in that second, the rest of the world just fades into a blur. It’s like no one else exists in this huge hall. There is a heavy, electric feeling swirling between us, a tension so thick it feels like it’s vibrating in the air. I can hardly breathe as I feel the undeniable pull toward him. It’s magnetic and terrifying. After a few seconds of the intense staring, I shift my gaze awkwardly and clear my throat.

“Please… let me go, your highness.” I whisper, my voice trembling.

Prince Kai just smiles at me. It isn’t his usual smirk, it’s a real, devastatingly handsome smile that reaches his eyes. I realize then just how breathtaking he looks when he actually drops the brooding act.

Snap out of it, Lyra! I mentally scold myself. He’s still the same arrogant prince.

I try to wiggle my waist to get free, but he only tightens his grip, making me glare up at him. He actually chuckles, clearly enjoying how flustered I am. He

starts moving, pulling me along with him toward the center of the hall.

“You’ll dance with me,” he says. It isn’t a question.

I look toward the stage and notice a lot of students are already dancing to some slow, sensual music. “You can’t just command me to dance with you!” I

snap, trying to plant my feet. “What happened to being a gentleman and asking first?”

Kai doesn’t even listen. He just drags me right onto the dance floor. When we reach the middle, he takes my arms and places them on his broad shoulders by

himself.

Even though I’m wearing heels, he’s still so much taller than me. Up close like this, I can smell his scent, rain and cedar, and it’s driving me crazy,

Why does he have to be so incredibly sexy?!

“Maybe you’ve forgotten,” Kai says, his voice is low and vibrating through my body. I’m the only one who doesn’t have to ask for your permission. I own you, Lyra Diamond. You’re my slave.”

His words should be annoying, and they are, but the usual biting edge isn’t there. It sounds almost… playful. I roll my eyes at his arrogance, and he immediately leans down closer to my face.

“Did you just roll those sparkling blue eyes at me?” he asks.

My cheeks flush bright red at his words. I can’t even look him in the eye. “It’s just ironic,” I mutter. “You’re dancing with your ‘slave and buying pretty dresses for that same slave. It doesn’t really fit the job description.”
