Kai doesn’t say anything to that, but notice a faint Linge of pink on his cheeks. It’s actually kind of adorable to see him embarrassed. His gaze slowly travels down my body, taking in the red gown.

“The dress looks good on you, by the way,” he says softly.

I feel a small smile tug at my lips. “Thank you.”

We continue to dance, our bodies moving together in time with the music. As we move, I start to feel that magnetic pull again, but this time it’s ten times stronger. I’m starting to feel breathless. I look up through the open ceiling and see the moon is turning a deeper pink color now. Is that why the bond is intensifying?

Oh Goddess… what if he really is my fated mate?

Kai’s face starts to slowly come down toward mine, his eyes fixed on my lips. I’m panting, my chest heaving as we both stand frozen on the dance floor, no longer even pretending to dance. He opens his mouth, his breath warm against my skin.

He doesn’t finish the sentence because suddenly, Princess Rina appears out of nowhere, stepping right between us.

“Oh! I’ve been looking for my mate all night,” she says in a loud and fake-cheerful voice. She looks at me with a cold, sharp smile. “Thank entertaining him while I was away, Lyra.”

She puts herself between us, forcing Kai to step back. I’m almost grateful she intervened when she did. Kai would have kissed me in front of the whole academy. My head is spinning, and I know we can’t cross that line. It’s too dangerous. Before Kai can say a single word to her or me, I quickly bow to both of them.

“Excuse me,” I mutter.

I turn on my heel and hurriedly walk away, disappearing into the crowd as fast as I can.

I breeze through the crowd of students and find my way into the restroom. Thankfully, the place is almost empty. I walk straight to the sink and splash some cool water on my face, staring at my reflection in the mirror. My cheeks are incredibly flushed, and I’m still breathless from the dance and the pull I felt with Kai.

“Snap out of it, Lyra,” I whisper to myself. “He’s just a Lycan Prince. He’s forbidden.”

I’m drying my hands when my phone suddenly dings with a message. I pull it out and see a text from Erika.

Erika: Hey, Ly. Meet me at the backyard. I’m ready to tell you the secret I’ve been keeping. Come alone.

I’m instantly intrigued. I’ve been waiting for her to finally open up to me about what’s going on with her and Rina. I tuck my phone away and head for the door. As I walk out of the restroom, I pass by a hidden wall space in the dim corridor. I pause when I hear a voice from the shadows.

“We shouldn’t be doing this, Kara,” a girl says, her voice sounding strained.

Then I hear Kara’s tow and breathless voice. “Baby, I don’t care. I can’t stop thinking about you.”

2:25 pm M

Chapter 92

The sound of intense, wet kissing follows. My heart skips a beat. Wait.. who is Princess Kara making out with? I know I should mind my own business and keep walking toward the hall, but my damn curiosity won’t let me. Instead of leaving, I take a slow, quiet step forward to peep around the corner.

My eyes widen in absolute shock at chat I see.

Princess Kara isn’t with a guy. She is pinned against the wall, kissing a she-wolf from my level. I recognize the girl. She’s Mia, the one who dominated her opponent during the arena combat games. They are literally tongue deep in each other, their hands roaming all over each other’s bodies with a desperate hunger.

A shocked gasp escapes my lips before I can stop it.

The sound makes them jump apart instantly. They both stare at me, their hair disheveled and their lips wollen. Kara looks like she’s seen a ghost, her face pale in the dim light.

“Ly… Lyra?” Kara asks, her voice shaky and thick with shock. “You’re here?”
