Chapter 96
“I don’t care what my father thinks snap. The red moon is already glowing through the ceiling, making my blood feel like it’s boiling. “I don’t care about the Council or my father. All I care about is talking to Lyra.
I pause, my voice dropping. ‘I’m scared she’ll reject me, Damon. After everything I’ve done to her… why would she want me?”
Damon reaches out and claps a hand on my shoulder, giving it a firm squeeze. “Dude, I know she feels it too. I’ve seen it in her face when you’re near. She’s probably just as scared as you are. Just go tell her. Tell her the truth.”
Hope suddenly sparks in my chest at his words. I nod, feeling more determined than I ever have in my life. I’m going to find her. I’m going to tell her she’s my fated mate.
I turn away from Damon and head toward the back of the hall, searching for her scent.
I spend the next thirty minutes looking for her, but Lyra is nowhere to be found. My patience
wearin
thin. I spot Kara near the drink table and march
over to her. The last time I saw Lyra, she was with Kara and I think they were hiding something from me.
“Where is Lyra, sis?” I demand. “I saw you with her near the restrooms earlier.”
Kara looks at me, surprised by the intensity in my voice. “She went back to be with her friends, Kai. Why? Is something wrong?**
I don’t answer. I turn and scan the crowd for Amara and Isolde. The red moon is now full in the sky, making my blood boil with the desire to be mated. This
is the perfect time. I need to find her and ma
her as mine. I’ll make it official so no one-especially not my cousin-ever thinks they can go near her
again.
Before I can reach her friends, a hand catches my shoulder and spins me around, It’s Rina. Her face is twisted with rage, her eyes red as if she’s been crying.
“You can’t keep doing this, Kai!” she screams over the music. “You can’t keep discarding me like I don’t matter! I am your future Queen!”
I’ve had enough of the nagging. I’ve had enough of the lies. “Rina, stop,” I say, my voice cold. “It’s time you faced the truth about us.”
Rina pales, her anger suddenly replaced by a look of genuine fear. “What… what do you mean?”
1 stay silent for a moment, letting the weight of my decision settle. “I don’t want you, I te her in a firm tone. “I have someone else. It’s Lyra, She’s my mate, Rina. The only right thing is for me to be with fated.”
my
Rina stares at me, her mouth falling open. Tears begin to track down her face. “A slave? You’re choosing a wolfless slave over me?” she sobs, her voice
cracking.
I feel a small pang of guilt, but I don’t move. “I’m sorry, Rina. I really am. I hope you find your own true mate tonight. You deserve that.”
I start to turn away, but she jumps forward and grabs my arm, letting out a sharp laugh that sounds almost insane.
‘You’re so pathetic, Kai,” she spits, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. “You’re actually simping over a wolfless whore who is currently fucking your
cousin in the garden right now.”
My blood turns to ice. I stop dead. “Shut the fuck up, Rina. Stop lying.
“I’m not lying!” she shrieks, laughing in my face. ‘Go check for yourself if you don’t believe me. I saw them sneaking out to the garden together just before

the moon-hit its peak. She’s probably realized he’s her true mate while you’ve been standing here feeling sorry for yourself.”
I’m confused and furious as I consider her words. Without saying anything, I move past her and head for the back doors. I burst out of the hall and into the cool air of the garden, my heart hammering against my ribs.
She wouldn’t. She couldn’t, I tell myself. I silently hope Rina is just being spiteful and lying to me.
I step into the garden maze. It’s a bit dark but I have Lycan vision so there’s no difference, I turn to a corner, and the sight that greets me stops my heart.
