My heart races a thousand miles per second as Kai slowly walks toward Roman and me. The moonlight reflects on his eyes, which are glowing with a

terrifying red fury. I know in this moment that he is capable of murdering both of us. His chest heaves with every breath, and he growls like the beast that

he is.

“Kai…” I whisper his name like a plea as he closes the distance.

Roman immediately moves to stand in front of me, shielding me as if he can somehow protect me from a powerful Lycan like Prince Kai.

“What the hell are you doing here, Kai?” Roman demands, his voice tight.

Kai doesn’t answer with words. He throws his head back and roars so loud that the walls of the garden tremble and the ground beneath my feet shakes. It’s a

sound of pure, unhinged fury.

“No! He just-I didn’t expect-” I try to defend myself, to explain that I don’t know why Roman followed into the garden, but he cuts me short.

“Shut the fuck up!” he bellows, the sound echoing through the maze. “Stop lying to me! I saw you! I saw both of you!”

Before I can grab him, Kai pushes me away, almost causing me to fall into the hedge. He ps on Roman, bringing him down to the stone path and starts throwing punches into him in a rough rhythm. I scream as I rush forward to pull at Kai’s shoulders, but he doesn’t even budge. He’s a wail of muscle.

“I’ll kill you! Kai roars, delivering blow after blow. “I’ll fucking kill you for touching her!”

Roman’s face is already a mask of blood, and his eyes are starting to roll back. Just when it looks like Roman is about to pass out for good, a blur passes by me and hits Kai from the side. Damon appears with incredible speed, forcefully pulling Kai off Roman.

Kai! Fucking calm down!” Damon yells, pinning Kai’s arms back.

Twe finally bad enough. I’m tired of being ignored and tired of Kai’s explosive temper and never giving me a chance to speak. I march over to him and grab his face, forcing him to look at me.

“That is not what happened!” I scread at him. “Please just listen to me this once.”

Kai glares at me, his eyes still burning red. So I imagined it? I imagined my own cousin’s mouth on yours?”
