Chapter 98
He leans in, a wicked, cold smile spreading on his face as his grip on my arm tightens. Forget staying with my sister, Lyra. That little arrangement is over.
From now on, you stay in the basement of my apartment. You’ll never see the light of day again.”
My entire body goes cold with fear. A single tear escapes and rolls down my cheek as I stare at him.
How can he be so cruel so quickly? Just an hour ago, we were dansing. I thought we were finally starting to get along. I thought there was something real
growing between us. But looking at the hatred in his eyes now, I realize how wrong I was.
Kai looks at me like he wants to squash me under his boot. Even though I’m terrified by him, I raise my head up and glare back at him. ‘You’re insane if you
think I’ll just let you lock me up like you did last time. I did nothing wrong, Kai!”
His face twists with even more fury, his nostrils flaring as if he can’t believe I have the audacity to talk back to him. I stand my ground, facing him squarely- even though my legs feel like jelly. He tries to yank me along with him, but I struggle, digging my heels into the ground. He grabs my hand in a grip so tight
that I wince in pain.
“Let go!” I gasp.
Just then, Kara rushes toward us, her face pale with worry. “Kai! Stop it! Let her go and just listen for one

Kai glares at his sister, his eyes flashing a deadly red. “Stay the fuck out of this, Kara. This doesn’t
you.
“It does concern me! You’re hurting her!” Kara tries to argue, reaching for my other arm,
but Kai doesn’t even listen to her.
He suddenly pulls me tightly against his chest. His muscles expand as he half-shifts. His power rolls off him in waves. Before I can even blink, he takes off, running with Lycan speed. Everything becomes a terrifying blur of wind and shadows as he carries me away from the garden.
The next thing I know, Kai roughly pushes me into a dark, damp basement. I hit the floor on my knees with a pained wince. I get up, breathing hard as I look around the tiny space. There’s only a small hole near the ceiling that lets in a tiny speck of moonlight.
I feel the walls closing in already. I can’t survive even a day in here without going mad.
“Let me out of here right now!” I shout, my voice echoing off the stone.
Kai slowly walks toward me, his shadow looming large in the small room “This is your new home, Lyra. A dark hole is exactly the kind of home that befits a
slave.”
Tears stream down my face as I look at him, my chest, aching with a pain that has nothing to do with my knees. “Why do you keep doing this? Why do you keep hurting me so much?” I sob. “Why are you so cruel?”
He steps into my personal space, his chest nearly brushing mine. His hot breath fans across my face. He reaches out and grabs my jaw in a firm grip, forcing
me to look at him.
“You deserve worse than this,” he hisses, his voice low and dangerous. “You’re going to spend a whole week down here. Maybe then you’ll learn to stop being a worthless slut for my fucking cousin.”
I freeze. The word hits me harder than any physical blow. The shock and the insult burn through my veins, and before I can even think about the consequences, my hand flies up.
