"You've been sick for half a month and drained all the family's coin on medicine! You left me with nothing to spend on the whores! From now on, I'll use you to find my release. Best to keep it in the family..."
The man ripped open his tunic and lunged, grabbing the little girl by the ankle and violently dragging her toward him.
The girl screamed in sheer panic.
A chilling shock tore through Celia.
She had never fathomed that such a vile creature could exist. They were brother and sister! This monster was trying to violate his own flesh and blood!
And the child was barely twelve years old!
Celia saw red. Pure fury incinerated her reason. With the girl's terrified, desperate shrieks echoing in her ears, she didn't hesitate. She charged forward, delivering a brutal kick that sent the man flying.
By sheer chance, a splintered sapling stood directly behind him, its jagged, broken trunk jutting upward like a spear. The man crashed heavily onto it, the sharp wood impaling him straight through the heart.
Outside the thicket, a voice called out for Holly, drawing closer. Celia instantly regained her composure and slipped into the shadows.
A moment later, a peasant woman rushed in. Seeing the girl on the ground, she froze, then dropped to her knees, pulling the child into a tearful embrace.
It had to be the girl's mother.
Seeing that the woman seemed protective of the child, Celia remained hidden. The mother's eyesight must have been poor, and with the gathering dusk, she didn't even notice the man's body lying nearby. Seeing her daughter frightened out of her wits, the mother hoisted her onto her back and fled.
After kicking the man, Celia had only been focused on checking the girl. Only after the mother and daughter left did she walk over to the man, shocked to realize he had been thoroughly skewered by the broken trunk and was entirely dead.
Remembering it now, she recalled using her right hand to grab the man, attempting to pull his body off the jagged wood. In doing so, his blood had stained her skin.
But she had washed it clean.
She had washed it once outside, and upon returning to the Prince's Estate, she scrubbed her hands repeatedly with Herbal Soap until they were flawless.
