The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 35

The queen mother had always doted on him!

"Prince Jareth has gone too far! That little wench was already promised as my concubine, and he dared to snatch her from my grasp!"

The more Gaston dwelled on it, the more his fury boiled. How could a royal prince stoop to stealing a woman from the heir of a marquisate?

Lady Joanna Brightwood wept, her heart breaking at his pain. Hearing his cries, she snapped without hesitation, "My Lord, look at how savagely they've abused our Gaston! If you, his own father, refuse to stand up for him, where shall we ever show our faces again?"

Though the Marquis loved his son dearly, he was torn.

"Do you think Gaston abducting young girls off the streets to force into his bed brings us any honor? He is far too young to be caught dragging whores into this estate. His reputation will be in tatters!"

Moreover, the boy had caused a public spectacle trying to capture her. Word had it that the girl had escaped, and this wretched son of his had led a band of guards to hunt her down through the streets.

What did that say? It said he was resorting to blatant abduction!

Thinking of this, the Marquis took a deep breath. "Gaston, be honest with your father. Where did you find this girl? Did she refuse to come to the estate with you?"

Before Gaston could speak, Joanna bristled in indignation.

She scoffed loudly. "My Lord, your words are utterly laughable! It is a blessing from the heavens that our Gaston even deigned to look her way! How could she possibly be unwilling?"

"Besides, House Forrester hasn't uttered a single word of complaint, so what right does anyone else have to point fingers? It is ridiculous."

The daughter of House Forrester was formally betrothed to Gaston; they only needed to wait another half a year for her to come of age before holding the wedding.

However, House Forrester was a lesser nobility, entirely outclassed by the Marquisate of Greenfield. Joanna had never been pleased with this arrangement, but as the match was struck years ago by the previous Marquis and the late Lord Forrester, they couldn't break the betrothal without just cause.
