The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 54

"Not used to it? That just means my presence is too weak. It is fine. After such a beating, I have made a lasting impression. I am sure they will not forget again."

Lucia smiled.

"Are you not afraid of gaining a reputation as a vicious tyrant?"

"Not at all. The king has already decreed my marriage to Prince Jareth. I have no fear of remaining unwed," Lucia replied without a second thought.

Lady Beaumont was absolutely enraged by her sheer insolence. She gnashed her teeth. "If Prince Jareth were to hear of this—"

Lucia cut her off. "Oh, you need not worry about that. Prince Jareth adores my vicious side."

Pfft.

Celia barely stifled a laugh.

Was that true?

But hearing her lady speak such bold words with utter arrogance was incredibly entertaining.

Her lady truly was unlike any other noblewoman in the Royal Capital.

"Have you no shame?" Lady Beaumont gasped in disbelief. "How can you speak so brazenly of a man's affections?"

Did she possess even an ounce of modesty?

"Prince Jareth also adores it when I speak of his affections." Lucia raised an eyebrow at her. "He desires me, and I desire him. Are you jealous?"

Behind the rockery stood a tall, slender figure. A faint smile touched the handsome man's eyes as he listened to those words. Beside him, Azure's eyes widened.

His Highness had come to quietly check on Lady Lucia's recovery, only to overhear such a scandalous declaration.

He stole a glance at his master and noticed the upward curve of his lips.

Heavens above.

Did His Highness actually enjoy this?

Had they not met mere days ago?

In the distance, Lady Beaumont stormed off in a fury.

Lucia and Celia strolled casually toward the front courtyards.

Corin had complained of a headache the day before. Physician Finch had checked his pulse, brewed a remedy, and applied needles. He had slept well enough through the night, leading them to believe he was recovering. Yet this morning, Corin had violently vomited his entire breakfast.

Then the headache returned, and this time, the agony nearly drove him mad.

Physician Finch had applied more needles to no avail. He even forced a strong pain-numbing draught down the boy's throat, but it had absolutely no effect!

Watching Corin drench his bedsheets in sweat, pale and howling as he was held down, the family felt their hearts shatter.

"Father, please, you must do something!"

Yvette sobbed, her eyes puffy. Seeing her son endure such torture sliced through her soul like a knife.

Her father-in-law was a renowned healer, yet he stood helpless.

"Father, just kill me! It hurts so much!" Corin screamed.

Hearing those words, Physician Finch nearly broke into tears himself.

Just then, a certain person suddenly flashed into his mind.
