Lady Forrester suddenly snapped her gaze to her maidservant, Lila. Only Lila knew about that morning's incident!

Lila was equally wide-eyed. Seeing her mistress's suspicion, she cried out, "My lady, I haven't spoken a word to anyone! I don't even know this woman!"

Was this witchcraft? How could Lady Lucia possibly know?

They noticed Bonnie's reaction; even the maid was staring at her mistress in absolute shock.

Lucia let out a soft laugh. "It isn't quite as mystical as you think," she said, pointing to Lady Forrester's feet. "You clearly changed your gown, but you forgot to change your shoes. There are faint traces of sickness on them, and a distinct odor."

Lady Forrester glanced down at her dark blue shoes. Indeed, a few tiny stains marred the fabric, completely unnoticeable unless one looked closely.

But she couldn't smell a thing!

Did this girl have the nose of a hunting hound?

"You also carry the taint of illness on you," Lucia continued. "Yet your complexion is healthy, which means someone in your household is sick. It must be someone you are personally nursing, for only close contact leaves such a heavy lingering aura."

"Your eyes are clouded with worry," she added. "And I found you outside an apothecary, yet you emerged empty-handed. You likely couldn't find the herbs you needed. Thus, I deduced the sickness is a stubborn one."

Everyone in the carriage sat in stunned silence.

"How... how can you see a taint of illness?" Lady Forrester asked, faltering.

Lucia tapped the side of her eye. "I simply have the sight for it."

Lady Forrester froze.

Could she really believe this?

"May I have your name, my lady?"

"My lord's name is Forrester," Lila answered for her.

Lucia nodded. "Then, Lady Forrester, please make another trip to the Finch estate tomorrow. I will put in a word with the physician."

By the time they reached the castle gates, Lady Forrester was still dizzy, her mind struggling to process what had just happened.
