"A little older than Corin? That's fine. Older is better." Matron Finch smiled. "What do you say we make her our grandson's bride? I adore the girl."

"What? What did you just say?" Physician Finch sputtered, completely losing his dignified composure. He stared at his wife in sheer horror and broke into a violent fit of coughing.

"What is with that reaction? Do you think Lady Lucia isn't good enough for us? Do you think our family is too prestigious?" Matron Finch glared at him.

"Cough! Woman, banish that thought from your mind before you get Corin killed!" Physician Finch's beard trembled. "Lady Lucia was just promised in marriage!"

"Promised?" Matron Finch gasped in outrage. "Which bastard dared to steal my Corin's future bride?"

"Cough! Cough! Cough!" Physician Finch nearly choked. "What bastard? It's Prince Jareth! She is betrothed to Prince Jareth!"

Although he was on good terms with Jareth Valerius, if the prince ever found out they were plotting to matchmake his future bride with Corin, he would never let the boy live it down! Corin was just a child; he wouldn't survive a single flick of the prince's finger.

Matron Finch was dumbfounded. "Didn't... didn't he just return to the Royal Capital?"

And hadn't the old king just passed away? She had never even heard of Lady Lucia before today. How had these two been betrothed so quickly?

Looking back on it, Physician Finch realized the prince had struck gold—though if Jareth were present, he would likely argue that it was Lucia who had unapologetically claimed him.

"Take these ashes to an uninhabited area outside the city and bury them," Lucia instructed.
