No one moved a muscle.
Lord Beaumont and the others recoiled in shock.
"Hank, what in the blazes are you doing?"
"My lord, my arm! By the gods, the pain!" Hank Strong shrieked, a cold sweat breaking out across his forehead.
It felt as though a thousand iron needles had been driven into his flesh, each one twisting deep into the bone.
His arm hung limply at his side, and he dared not touch it with his other hand.
The steward stared at his son in horror. Snapping back to his senses, he rushed forward, grabbing Hank's arm and attempting to pull up his sleeve to inspect the damage.
The moment his fingers grazed his son's arm, Hank let out an even more agonizing scream.
"Father! Stop! Don't touch it, it's killing me!"
The steward snatched his hands back, pacing frantically, desperate to help but terrified of causing more harm.
"What is happening? What does it feel like?"
"It's ruined! My arm is ruined!" Hank collapsed to the floor, tears streaming down his face in a pathetic display.
"My lord, my lady, what do we do? I beg of you, help my son!" the steward pleaded, on the verge of weeping.
"Lucia, is this your doing? What witchcraft is this?" Lady Beaumont demanded, a shiver running down her spine as she glared at the girl.
Hank had just tried to block her path, after all.
Lucia's expression remained entirely bored. "Are you blind? Did you see me lay a finger on him? If the beast is ailing, fetch a healer."
With that, she turned on her heel and departed with Celia and Bonnie, not sparing the writhing man another glance.
The steward instinctively wanted to block her, but his son's continuous shrieks made him flinch, and he stepped back.
Though reason told him the girl couldn't possibly be responsible, a dark shadow of doubt lingered in his mind.
Ximena had watched the entire exchange in stunned silence, unable to comprehend what she had just witnessed even after Lucia was gone.
Was this truly the timid village girl she had brought back from the countryside?
