The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 80

Celia stepped in front of the door, throwing her arms out to block Selena's path.

But Selena was thrashing like a wildcat, throwing punches, kicking, and even snapping her teeth in an attempt to bite.

"I'll have my mother sell you both to a brothel!"

Aurelia and Zella hovered nearby, wringing their hands in feigned distress, pretending they didn't know how to intervene.

"Zella, slap her!" Selena screeched.

A cold calculation flashed in Zella's eyes before she cried out in a panicked tone, "Stop fighting! Please, Selena! They belong to Prince Jareth, they only answer to Lucia..."

Her words were like oil on a raging fire.

Consumed by wrath, Selena's jealousy flared into a blinding inferno. Why should Lucia—a wretched village girl—earn the Prince's favor?

"The Prince didn't want these wretches, that's why he dumped them on a peasant like Lucia! Slap her! Do it, or I'll make you pay too!"

Selena howled in pure spite.

Zella was trapped. If she actually struck the maid, she would undoubtedly suffer the consequences later. But if she refused, Selena would make her life a living hell, exploiting Zella's low status as a bastard daughter.

Biting her lip, she suddenly swayed and clutched her forehead. "I... I feel faint..."

Aurelia shot her a venomous glare. Fainting now, of all times? She had been banking on Zella doing the dirty work; there was no way Aurelia would soil her own hands.

As Selena continued to shriek, the chamber door creaked open.

"Celia, Bonnie, step back."

At the sound of Lucia's cold voice, the two maids instantly released Selena and retreated.

Selena's reflexes weren't as sharp. A goblet of icy water hit her squarely in the face, making her gasp and jolt in shock.

Lucia stood in the doorway, the empty goblet in hand, watching her sister with eyes like winter ice.

"Are you quite finished?"

Icy water dripped from Selena's chin and soaked the collar of her gown. Finally processing the humiliation, her eyes blazed with fury. "Lucia, you dare—"

Before she could finish the threat, Lucia's hand shot out, seizing the front of her gown and yanking her forward until they were inches apart.
