The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 85

Crown Prince Theron was seventeen, merely three years younger than his uncle Jareth.

However, Theron possessed a distinctly scholarly air. Though he shared some facial features with Jareth, his jawline and the bridge of his nose lacked his uncle's predatory sharpness. His lips were a bit fuller, erasing the cold edge typical of the royal bloodline and replacing it with a gentle, sunny warmth.

The King shot Theron a disapproving glare. "Why should you go? You belong here, maintaining the vigil. As the Crown Prince, you must set an example and do better than your brothers."

Why was Theron so obsessively attached to Jareth?

"If Theron wishes to go, he shall go. He can resume his vigil when we return," Jareth said, resting his hand firmly on Theron's forearm. "Let us go."

He swayed slightly as if his legs were unsteady from standing up, and Theron immediately tightened his grip to support him.

"Father, I will resume my vigil as soon as I return," Theron promised.

The King let out a cold snort and turned to the other princes. "Then the Second Prince shall accompany me."

A spark of joy lit up the Second Prince's eyes. He quickly stepped forward. "Father, please allow me to support you." He carefully took the King's arm.

This instantly smoothed over the King's ruffled pride.

See? The Second Prince was sensible. He knew exactly where his loyalties should lie.

The grand procession made its way toward the royal family chapel.

Meanwhile, back at the Prince's Estate, Matron Cecily woke up feeling incredibly refreshed. The heavy fatigue that had plagued her all week was completely gone, and her mind was sharp.

A deep, dreamless sleep straight until dawn.

She pulled the small cloth pouch from her inner pocket and stared at it for a long time.

Did Lady Lucia's ward truly work?

It felt almost miraculous.

Matron Cecily suddenly thought of Silvanus, the Steward. She knew the old man had also been sleeping horribly for days. Since he wasn't as close to Celia and Bonnie, he naturally hadn't confided his troubles to the young maids.

She sought out Silvanus, pouch in hand.

"Did you sleep well last night?"

Silvanus sighed heavily. "You know the state of His Highness's health. How could I possibly sleep well? The moment my head hits the pillow, I am plagued by nightmares."
