The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 398

After a while, Rowena stood up. "Grandpa, I brought some gifts back from the UK, but I forgot to bring them to Blossom City last time. I'm going to take Lavinia upstairs to pick what she likes."

"Go ahead," Geoffrey agreed with a fond smile.

Before Lavinia could politely decline, Rowena grabbed her hand and practically dragged her upstairs.

Rowena's room was cozy and elegant. The two cousins sat on the floor, opening the packages.

There wasn't anything groundbreaking from the UK—mostly a premium bone china tea set, some century-old herbal tea brands, and a few pieces from Burberry.

Lavinia picked up one of the bone china teacups and asked casually, "So, after your engagement party, when are you and Harrison Fawcett officially getting married?"

"We were supposed to get married this year, but it turned out to be a widow's year," Rowena sighed. "You know how superstitious people here can be. Both our families agreed it was better to get engaged now and hold the actual wedding next year."

"So he has to wait another whole year," Lavinia teased.

"What's the rush?" Rowena rolled her eyes playfully. "He's already mine anyway."

Lavinia laughed. "What do you mean, 'he's yours'?"

"I mean he's not going anywhere. Our families arranged this when we were kids. He could never escape my grasp." Rowena set a tin of tea on her lap.

"How does he treat you?" Lavinia asked gently.

"Really well," she mused. "No matter how busy he is, he calls me every single day. He replies to my texts the second I send them. He's never made me wait. During those two years I was in the UK, he flew out from the island for my birthday, Christmas, and the holidays to be with me."

"Every time?"

"Every single time," Rowena said with utter certainty.

"One year for Valentine's Day, I called him during the day and told him I missed him. That exact night, he showed up outside my dorm. He didn't even have time to book business class; he sat in a middle seat in economy for over ten hours just to have dinner with me, and flew back the very next day for a meeting."

Lavinia listened in awe. "Has he always been like that?"
