The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 101

The sound of a baby crying drifted from the bedroom.

Eleanor immediately looked concerned. "Laura, go check on the baby. What's wrong with him? Why is he crying so hard?"

Once the housekeeper hurried off, Eleanor turned her attention to Diana.

"Ever since this great-grandson came into our lives, my old bones finally have something to look forward to," Eleanor said, her meaning impossible to miss. "I was so worried that when my younger grandson passed, the Lowell family line would end right there. Who would have thought that my second grandson's wife would actually leave us an heir?"

No matter how you spun it, the words were incredibly grating.

It was a blatant, sarcastic jab at Jocelyn's inability to conceive.

But Diana had no choice except to pretend she hadn't heard a thing. She merely shot Jocelyn a reproaching glare.

Jeremy, however, curled his lip and spoke up casually. "Grandma Lowell, if a couple can't have a baby, you can't automatically blame the woman. For all we know, the problem could be the man."

Diana couldn't stop him in time.

"My sister is perfectly healthy," Jeremy added.

Eleanor opened her mouth, nearly blurting out the truth.

Only the Lowell family knew the truth about Audrey using Adrian's sperm. To the outside world, their lips were tightly sealed. Because of this, Diana and Jeremy firmly believed that Audrey's baby was Arthur's posthumous child.

For the moment, Eleanor had no choice but to choke down her anger in silence. She certainly couldn't reveal the truth just to prove her eldest grandson was perfectly fertile.

Though Jocelyn usually felt nothing but apathy toward Jeremy, she silently gave him a thumbs-up for that one.

Laura emerged from the bedroom. "Ma'am, the baby is perfectly fine. He was just a little hungry. He's been fed and is happily playing with Ms. Claire now."

Eleanor finally relaxed. "Tell the maternity nurse to watch him carefully. If anything happens to my great-grandson, I'll hold her personally responsible."

She looked every bit the supreme matriarch holding court.

Diana rolled her eyes internally, though her face maintained a bright, polite smile.

She hadn't just 'dropped by' today. She had come with a specific purpose.

Adrian obediently sat down.

Diana forced a smile. "Jeremy, say hi to Adrian!"

"Hey, Adrian," Jeremy said with a lazy, careless drawl.

"This is Jeremy?"

Adrian had only seen Jeremy once at the wedding, so his impression was faint.

"Yes," Diana quickly replied. "You two only met at the wedding, and then he went abroad to further his studies. He just got back a few days ago. I figured I'd bring him over to see you so he can learn what real success looks like."

Naturally, Adrian enjoyed being flattered.

"Like father, like son. I'm sure Jeremy has great potential."

Diana beamed. "Well, he'll definitely need your guidance and advice from now on."
