The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 104

"It's rare for you to actually want to see him," Adrian said.

It was true. Ever since Audrey and the baby moved in, Jocelyn hadn't once stepped foot into their bedroom on her own accord. Today was a first.

And it was entirely because she wanted to dodge his nauseating kiss. She also couldn't stand being in the same room as Adrian for too long.

It bred too much hatred, and hatred had a way of stripping people of their self-control.

When Audrey saw Jocelyn walk in, she was visibly taken aback. "Jocelyn?"

Jocelyn forced a smile. "I came to see Leo."

The baby was lying in his crib, waving his arms and legs energetically.

Jocelyn walked over, leaned down, and gently brushed her finger against the baby's cheek.

He was chubby and undeniably cute.

Jocelyn unconsciously touched her own stomach. What would her baby look like? Would they look more like her, or more like...

Leo's tiny hand suddenly grabbed her finger.

The soft, warm touch melted something in Jocelyn's heart. The child had done nothing wrong. He was just an innocent victim in all of this.

Adrian stepped up behind her. "Look, I think he really likes you."

Jocelyn pulled her finger back and said nothing.

To Audrey, the sight of them standing side by side at the crib was almost unbearable. An outsider would think they were the baby's parents.

"Jocelyn, Adrian mentioned you two are going to the charity gala tomorrow," Audrey said, her tone saccharine. "You have to make sure you dress beautifully so you make him look good."

Jocelyn pulled her gaze away from the baby.

She still didn't have the heart to prick the baby for a blood sample. But if she didn't get his blood, she couldn't run the DNA test...

Seeing Jocelyn stay silent, Adrian prompted her. "Audrey is talking to you."

Adrian looked a bit uncomfortable. "Why are you bringing this up?"

"I know you had your reservations and your hands were tied. I understand, and Maria understands too."

Adrian sighed. "She probably hates me."

"No, she doesn't hate you," Jocelyn assured him.

"How do you know?"

Jocelyn offered a meaningful smile. "Because I already explained everything to her on your behalf. I even gave her my savings as compensation, and I promised to visit her often. So you can stop worrying."

She deliberately left out the part where she had moved Maria into The Astoria.

After dropping that bomb, Jocelyn shot a pointed look at Audrey.

Audrey's face was cycling through a fascinating spectrum of colors. Watching her struggle to swallow her words was incredibly entertaining.
