The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 124

Jocelyn then noticed the sheer amount of bags piled up on the living room floor.

"Maria, what is all this?"

"Oh, Mr. Vance's assistant dropped this off. He bought so much! I was shocked when he brought it all in. It's like he moved an entire grocery store into our apartment."

Maria studied Jocelyn's face.

"Miss Jocelyn, you don't look so good. And why are you suddenly back so late?"

"It's nothing," Jocelyn replied. "I just wanted to come back. The atmosphere over there was toxic."

"If you're not comfortable there, you should come back more often," Maria said affectionately. "I'll cook you all your favorite meals. But you really shouldn't be running around so late at night. You don't want to startle the baby."

"I know."

Maria suddenly remembered something.

"By the way, Miss Jocelyn, the milk in the fridge has been expired for days. Why did you keep it?"

Expired milk?

Jocelyn immediately recalled Julian's stomach issues.

She hurried over to the fridge, grabbed the milk carton, and checked the date.

Sure enough, it was expired.

"I just bought this a couple of days ago," Jocelyn muttered. "How could it be expired already?"

"You must not go grocery shopping very often," Maria chuckled. "Supermarkets always put the milk that's about to expire right at the front on discount. I bet you didn't check the date and just grabbed it."

Jocelyn thought back.

That was exactly what happened.

So after all this time, she really was the culprit behind Julian's stomachache.

Talk about a guilty conscience.

She really wanted to call Julian.

But considering how late it was, she figured he was probably already asleep, so she dropped the idea.

Back in her room, Jocelyn washed up quickly and opened her laptop.

Tonight, she had much more pressing matters to deal with.

From the start of the auction, to Adrian winning the necklace, to how smoothly it ended up in her hands, to Claire getting assaulted—this entire chain of events was no coincidence.

Maybe she needed to trace it all the way back to the person who originally bought her necklace.

He bent down, pulling a brand-new pair of women's slippers from the shoe cabinet.

"I was just about to make breakfast. Want me to make you some?"

Jocelyn temporarily pushed down what she had come to say. "Sure."

Mr. Vance actually knew how to cook?

She was genuinely curious to see what kind of breakfast he'd whip up.

Julian tied an apron around his waist and headed into the kitchen.

Standing outside the glass door, Jocelyn watched the man meticulously working inside, and for a moment, her mind drifted.

This heir to the Vance family was practically perfect.

A man like him was basically a miracle.

Jocelyn pulled out a chair and sat at the dining table.

"I'm sorry."

Julian kept working without turning around.

"You came over here first thing in the morning just to say sorry?"
