The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 202

All the past grievances and pain came rushing back.

Marcus's death was the final straw that completely broke Jocelyn.

"I don't want any alimony, and I refuse to just walk away quietly. I want the Lowell family to pay for what they've done."

"That's why I've decided not to settle out of court with Adrian. I want to sue. I want to drag every disgusting thing the Lowell family has done out into the open."

"I want everyone to see exactly how depraved that family is, and how vicious the Lowell matriarch and Michelle truly are."

Julian looked at her quietly.

He saw the fury in her eyes, understood the heartbreak behind it, and felt the weight of all the injustice she had suffered.

"Have you thought about the consequences of doing this?"

Jocelyn's face was set in stone.

"Of course I have. If I go scorched earth, the Lowells won't let me off the hook. The Prestons won't let me off the hook, either. They will use every dirty trick in the book to destroy me. They might even try to kill me."

"But so what? I have nothing left to lose. Why should I care about any of that?"

Julian's gaze drifted down to her stomach.

"How can you say you have nothing? You have your baby, and you have me... you have all of us."

Jocelyn's hand slowly moved to her belly. She let out a deep, heavy sigh.

"Maybe I'm just not meant to be a mother..."

Julian was silent for a few seconds.

"Are you sure about this?"

"Yes," Jocelyn said. "I'm not changing my mind."

"Alright," Julian said. "I do know an excellent divorce attorney. I'll have him contact you directly."

Jocelyn felt a twinge of guilt.

"I really hated having to bother you with this. When I was standing downstairs, I kept thinking about turning around and leaving, but..."

Julian opened the contacts on his phone and made the call right in front of her.

Jocelyn couldn't hear what the person on the other end was saying.

But she could hear Julian's side of the conversation perfectly clear.

"I need a favor."

"I have a friend who wants to file for divorce."

"Just a good friend. She's joining my company after the divorce."

"Don't make jokes like that in front of her. If she takes it seriously, it'll just cause a misunderstanding."

"Yeah, I'll send you her number. Reach out to her."

Julian smiled. "I can tell. You seem to really like them."

Jocelyn shrugged slightly. "Maybe it's just because I haven't had a proper meal in two days. My stomach is completely empty."

Julian frowned slightly.

"Are you still blaming yourself for your father's passing?"

At the mention of her rawest wound, Jocelyn's heart seized with a sharp pain.

"If I hadn't turned off my phone that night, I could have seen my dad one last time."

The tears fell instantly.

Some things were just too painful to talk about. The mere mention of it tore her apart.

"I know he must have desperately wanted to see me before he passed. He probably fought with every last breath just to see me one last time."

"But I..."

Jocelyn clasped her hands tightly together, her fingernails digging deep into the back of her own hand.

It was as if she was trying to use physical pain to numb the agony in her heart.

Julian suddenly felt a suffocating tightness in his chest.

He wanted to say something, but he didn't know what words could possibly bring her any comfort.
