"That day in the car, why was my desire suddenly so out of control?"
Audrey went slightly rigid.
"That... how would I know? I'm not a guy."
Adrian pulled her hands down and looked her directly in the eyes.
"Audrey, you're a terrible liar. Tell me the truth."
Audrey bit her lip. "I'm scared to say."
Adrian asked, "Did Grandma put you up to it?"
Audrey struggled internally for a long moment.
"Grandma put a little something in the dessert... but... but I honestly didn't know about it beforehand. I only found out after..."
Adrian furrowed his brow, remaining silent for a long time.
Audrey asked cautiously, "Adrian, are you blaming me?"
Adrian let out a heavy sigh.
"No, I don't blame you for this."
If he had to blame anyone, it was his grandmother, who always had to control everything.
And he blamed himself for being in such a powerless position.
Even if he knew his grandmother was behind it, what could he do?
She just wanted him to marry Audrey as soon as possible.
Thank god Jocelyn had tipped him off.
Otherwise, he would have remained completely in the dark.
A little while later, Todd called Adrian.
Adrian spoke some vague nonsense into the phone.
Todd instantly picked up on the cue.
"Mr. Lowell, something urgent has come up at the company. Can you come in right away?"
Adrian replied, "Alright, I'm on my way."
Audrey looked disappointed when she saw he was leaving.
"Adrian, it's so late. You're going back to the office? I thought we were going to plan Leo's one-month celebration tonight."
But Audrey said, "I don't care about ruling the house. I just want Adrian to love me. I just want to spend the rest of my life with him."
Caleb chuckled. "Silly girl."
Audrey whined, "I'm not silly! This is what I've always wanted."
"Alright, alright. You're not silly. My precious daughter is the smartest girl in the world."
Audrey changed the subject.
"By the way, Dad, Adrian just asked me about what happened... in the car after dinner that day. I didn't think he'd notice, but out of nowhere, he brought it up. It scared me to death."
Caleb asked, "What did you say?"
"I did exactly what you told me to do. I pinned it on Grandma. Thank god we gave her a heads-up beforehand."
Caleb let out a sly, calculating laugh.
"I really didn't expect Eleanor to actually agree to play along."
Audrey's thinking was simple.
"Grandma just wants us to get married as soon as possible."
