The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 216

The moment the heavy front doors of the villa closed behind him, Adrian felt like he could finally breathe.

Todd's car was already waiting outside.

"Mr. Lowell, are we heading to see Lana?"

Adrian nodded. "Yeah."

Todd asked, "Will you be returning home tonight? If so, I'll wait outside."

"Just drop me off and head home. You can pick me up first thing in the morning."

Todd didn't ask any more questions.

In these situations, the less said, the better.

When Lana saw Adrian again, she felt something was off.

He had been coming to the club a lot more frequently over the last couple of days.

And his mood seemed to be getting progressively worse.

Adrian sat in the private room for nearly twenty minutes, nursing his drink without saying a single word.

Since he wasn't talking, Lana simply sat quietly beside him, keeping him company.

Adrian drained the last drop of alcohol from his glass and turned to look at her.

"Don't you have anything to ask me?"

Lana smiled softly. "If you want to talk about it, you will. If I have to drag it out of you, the answers I get might not be the real ones."

Adrian patted his thigh.

"Come here."

Lana moved over and sat on his lap, resting one hand gently on his shoulder.

"You seem to be coming here a lot more often lately."

Adrian rested his head against her chest, looking exhausted.

"Is it a bad thing that I want to see you more?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"The more frequently you come here, the worse your mood must be. Besides, a place driven by money and lust like this... it's best not to visit too often."

A half-smile touched Adrian's lips as he reached up and tapped her cheek.

"If I hadn't come here, how would I have met you?"

Lana placed her hand over his.

"Your energy is off."

"Oh?"

"It seems the old lady is pressuring you to finalize your divorce and marry Miss Preston."

Adrian's brow furrowed.

She parked her car outside the nursing home.

Marcus Evans had been right.

Even though it was out in the countryside, the nursing home looked quite impressive. The grounds were impeccably clean.

It had a full set of exercise equipment, and the landscaping was beautiful.

It really wasn't a bad place to retire.

Jocelyn's heart started to pound with excitement.

She was finally going to see the mother she had thought about every day and night. What should she say to her?

Should she give her a big hug?

Would her mother push her away?

She worried that they would be too like strangers, that they wouldn't have anything to talk about.

...

Standing outside the gates, Jocelyn's mind raced with a million thoughts.

So many that she almost wanted to laugh at herself.

She had been through so much trauma, yet here she was, nervous as a little kid.

A kind-looking woman, who appeared to work there, noticed Jocelyn standing in the freezing wind and walked over.
