The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 225

"It's mostly because you've been entirely too tense lately, causing severe physical and mental exhaustion."

Jocelyn: "Probably."

Just as she said that, her stomach gave a loud rumble.

Julian chuckled softly.

"Your body is protesting again. From now on, no matter what happens, you eat when it's time to eat, and sleep when it's time to sleep. Because no matter how much you neglect your own body, it won't change the inevitable outcome of a situation."

Jocelyn smiled.

"Got it, Julian."

The hotel breakfast could only be described as pathetic.

Some instant oatmeal, a hard-boiled egg, a slice of toast, and some packaged sides.

Jocelyn looked at the breakfast, then looked at Julian.

Uh.

"If you aren't used to this, we can go out to eat?"

Julian was struggling to tear open the packaging of his sides.

"It's simple, but it's clean. A light diet is good for your health."

Jocelyn watched him struggle for a moment before reaching over and taking it.

"Let me."

Without thinking, she used her teeth to rip the plastic open.

When she looked up, Julian was smiling at her.

It was a thoroughly affectionate smile.

Assuming he found it gross, Jocelyn gave an awkward laugh.

"Sorry, force of habit. I'll open a new one for you."

Even though she was the Evans family heiress, Diana Evans never treated her like a proper heiress. She essentially just let her run wild without any supervision.

In college, Jocelyn started working part-time to pay her way, acting exactly like someone from a struggling family.

Because of that, she became very laid-back in her daily life.

But without the suffocating rules of a wealthy family, she lived freely.

Julian didn't mind in the slightest.

"I like you exactly as you are."

Jocelyn's smile faded slightly.

"Do you think I don't act like a proper heiress?"

Julian: "What's wrong with just being yourself? No one ever decreed how an heiress is supposed to act."

Jocelyn: "Maybe that's why I always feel so comfortable around you."

Julian's gaze lingered on her flawless features for several seconds.

"You think something's bothering me?"

Jocelyn tried to find a way to say it without making things awkward.

"Not exactly... maybe I'm overthinking it. It's just... sometimes you seem like you have a lot on your mind."

Julian lowered his eyes and stayed silent.

Had she hit the nail on the head?

The atmosphere suddenly grew strange.

Jocelyn started regretting bringing it up.

Trying to lighten the mood, she added.

"Honestly, I'm probably just worrying over nothing. Look at you—you have money, looks, power, and influence. And most importantly, you have a beautiful fiancé from a perfect background. What could you possibly have to worry about?"

Julian still didn't respond.

Jocelyn bit her fork, mentally kicking herself.

*Why did I have to run my mouth so early in the morning!*

Julian set down his fork and looked at her with an intense, burning gaze.

"You're right. I do have something on my mind."
