Lana gave him a half-smile.
"Jocelyn shared your bed for three years, and yet you clearly know absolutely nothing about her."
"If she was simply bitter, or if she was just after the money, why not force you to just hand it over? Why is she offering to pay you for it?"
"She holds all the cards right now. She has more than enough leverage to negotiate with you, so why wouldn't she demand you give it to her for free?"
Adrian paused, slightly stunned.
"What are you trying to say?"
Lana's voice was gentle but firm. "Jocelyn isn't after the Evans family's wealth. She's simply trying to repay Marcus Evans for raising her."
"When Marcus Evans was alive, he refused to sell the company to you because it was his life's work. He couldn't bear to let it go. Jocelyn knows this intimately. So even though Marcus is gone, she wants to protect his legacy on his behalf."
"Given how Diana and Jeremy treated her, she could easily have washed her hands of the whole mess. But Jocelyn clearly understands loyalty and gratitude. She always repays the kindness she's been shown. How many women out there can say they'd do the same?"
"Adrian, from the very beginning, you've never truly tried to understand your wife. You've always viewed her through a prejudiced lens."
Adrian sat in silence for a long time.
He had to admit, Lana's last point was entirely accurate.
For three years, he really had never taken the time to look at or understand the woman he married.
"Are you saying I should agree to her terms?"
"You were married for a long time, and you shared three years together. Even if it's over, you should part ways on good terms. You're just helping her fulfill her filial duty. It doesn't really cost you anything."
"If you don't get The Evans Group, there are plenty of other companies out there. It's not like you absolutely need The Evans Group, right?"
Lana gently massaged Adrian's shoulders, her expression peaceful and sweet.
"Besides, if you do this, she might actually remember you fondly if you two ever cross paths again, rather than always being at each other's throats."
Adrian sat quietly for a moment before suddenly grabbing Lana by the wrist and pulling her down onto his lap.
"I've noticed you seem to always take her side."
