The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 25

Adrian comforted her gently. "Audrey, if you have something to say, just say it. There are no outsiders here."

Audrey put on a show of embarrassment.

"I don't know if it was seeing Arthur's picture just now, but my heart still feels uneasy. Adrian, do you think my depression is coming back?"

Jocelyn watched the scene unfold like a comedy show.

She wanted to laugh but couldn't, which was honestly exhausting.

This villa used to be as cold and lifeless as a tomb. Now, with Audrey here, things were much more interesting.

It was like a free trip to the zoo to watch the monkeys perform.

Adrian was, of course, concerned.

"I'll take you back to your room. I'll stay with you tonight until you fall asleep."

He said it without any regard for the fact that his wife was right there.

Fortunately, the wife didn't seem to mind. With great magnanimity, she said, "Adrian, take Audrey back to her room. She's still fragile after the delivery, and the last thing she needs is to collapse from exhaustion or a fever."

"You should stay with her. If Arthur were here to see Audrey like this, it would break his heart all over again."

Her words were so laced with sarcasm that even Audrey understood.

A flicker of resentment crossed her eyes but was quickly hidden.

Adrian, however, only heard the surface meaning and felt conflicted. "You..."

He had just promised to stay with her, and now he was going back on his word. He felt a pang of guilt.

Especially since Jocelyn was being so understanding, which made Adrian even more hesitant.

Before, this woman would only give him cold stares or say things that were hard to hear. Now, she had suddenly become so compliant.

Had she really come to terms with things?

But why didn't her newfound compliance and understanding make him happy?

At this moment, Adrian almost wished Jocelyn would make a scene.

Jocelyn, of course, had figured out what was going through his mind.

"Pathetic", she cursed silently.

But her face remained wreathed in smiles. "I'm fine. Audrey's health is more important. You should take her back."

Adrian put his arm around Audrey and left.

Jocelyn smiled as she watched them go.

At 15, while serving as captain of the school basketball team, he developed a music recommendation algorithm that was purchased by a company for seven million dollars.

At 18, he was admitted to a world-renowned university for computer science, where he earned the nickname "The Programming Prodigy."

At 24, he took over the family business and, in just two years, transformed Vanguard Tech into a global technology powerhouse.

...

The more Jocelyn read, the more she wanted to bow down and worship him.

Finally, her eyes landed on a single line.

Fiancée: Hailey Preston.

Jocelyn was curious.

What kind of woman must this Hailey Preston be to deserve a man who stood at the pinnacle, looking down on the rest of the world?

A call came in from Sarah.

"I found the person you were looking for. And they're absolutely reliable."

Jocelyn smiled, relieved. "You've never let me down."

Sarah asked, "So, what's the plan?"
