The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 26

Jocelyn said, "Wait for my signal."

Sarah replied, "No problem."

Then Sarah remembered something.

"There's a university reunion tomorrow night. You coming?"

Jocelyn didn't hesitate. "I'm in."

Sarah said, "Dress to kill. Blind them all."

A thought sparked in Jocelyn's mind. "Of course."

The next day, Jocelyn woke up, opened her phone, and her groggy mind snapped into focus.

One and a half billion dollars, deposited in full.

The sender's name was the jewelry store.

Jocelyn thought about it for a long time but couldn't figure it out.

Did the other party just trust her that much? Weren't they afraid she'd run off with the money?

Or did they simply not care about one and a half billion dollars?

Jocelyn pursed her lips.

This person had to be a top-tier billionaire, rolling in cash.

What a shame she couldn't see what they looked like.

Jocelyn went down to the dining room.

Audrey was already at the table eating breakfast.

When she saw Jocelyn, she rolled her eyes and ignored her.

Perfect. Peace and quiet. The cold shoulder was exactly what Jocelyn needed.

But after a few bites, Claire appeared, a mischievous grin on her face.

"Guess where my brother slept last night?"

Jocelyn chewed on her delicious cinnamon roll, not bothering to answer.

Claire glared. "I'm talking to you! Why are you ignoring me? Who do you think you are?"

Jocelyn lazily lifted her eyelids. "Who are you talking to?"

Claire pouted. "It's just you and me here. Who do you think?"

Jocelyn said, "Oh, I thought I heard an annoying mosquito buzzing in my ear. Turns out it was just you."

"The Lowell family values its reputation above all else. If you say things like that, you're telling the world that the Lowell family is involved in improper relations, aren't you?"

"Will people think Adrian is heartless and cruel for seducing his own sister-in-law? Or will they think Audrey is a shameless, promiscuous woman, throwing herself at her brother-in-law so soon after her husband's death?"

"People will talk, and they might say things even uglier than that."

"Jocelyn!" Claire slammed her palm on the table. "How can you say such horrible things! Improper relations? Seduction? You're talking nonsense. They're in love."

"In love?"

Jocelyn almost burst out laughing.

This girl really was naive.

But Audrey was certainly skilled to have this girl so thoroughly wrapped around her finger.

"Claire, whether they're in love or not, you can't say things like that. Some things are better left unsaid. If you say them out loud, you give people ammunition to mock our family. Do you understand?"

Claire was furious.

She had said all that on purpose to provoke Jocelyn.

But in the end, she was the one who was about to have a meltdown.

Her temper flared, and she lost control, picking up her glass of milk and throwing it at Jocelyn.
