For a moment, Sarah didn't know what to say.
She sat with Jocelyn in silence for a long time.
They stayed there until the golden hues of the setting sun slanted through the window, washing over the motionless woman.
Jocelyn had wiped away her tears, leaving behind a chilling, stagnant calm.
No one knew what was going through her mind, but when she finally spoke, her emotions were completely under control.
"Sarah, I was wrong."
Sarah took her hand. "Hey, don't overthink things..."
"I was wrong. I was wrong about so much."
Her heart was shattered, her insides churning. Whether it was physical nausea or the sheer psychological weight of her grief, a suffocating wave of despair washed over her, making her feel sick.
But she forced it down.
Her voice echoed slow and cold in the quiet room.
"I was wrong to ever fall for Adrian. I was wrong to marry him so blindly when I knew perfectly well he didn't love me."
"It wasn't the Lowell family that trampled all over my dignity. I did it. I trampled on my own pride. I threw myself to the wolves, giving up everything for some illusion of love."
"I was so stupid. I thought love was everything. I thought that if I just loved him hard enough, he would eventually soften and love me back."
"Three years... it's not a lifetime, but it's not short, either. I wasted three whole years for nothing."
Jocelyn let out a deep, ragged sigh, her gaze drifting out the window.
The sunset was breathtakingly beautiful.
Yet at this moment, it only made her feel utterly desolate.
Her life wasn't supposed to be like this.
"Sarah, I can't live like this anymore. It's time I take back what's mine."
Diana Evans looked down on her.
The Lowell family despised her.
They had treated her mother's life like a sick joke, tossing it aside without a second thought.
The only reason they dared to humiliate her like this was because she was a nobody. She had no power, no money, and no one to back her up.
Fine.
