"I will," Jocelyn said. "But you really don't need to stay with me these next couple of days. You should go back to work."
"I can't do that. Mr. Vance specifically told me to stay with you. Everyone's really worried."
"Don't be. I just want to use these next few days to figure things out."
Sarah hesitated. "But Mr. Vance..."
"Sarah, please listen to me. Go to work. Don't neglect your job because of me. Just let me have some quiet time, okay?"
"All right," Sarah conceded. "But if you need anything, promise you'll call us. And please, no more reckless stunts."
"I promise, I..."
A ringing phone cut Jocelyn off.
She answered it.
About thirty seconds later, the call ended.
A profound sense of relief washed over her.
"Who was that?" Sarah asked.
"The Court Mediator."
Sarah blinked in surprise.
"That fast?"
Jocelyn laughed bitterly to herself.
"Eleanor wouldn't let it drag on."
Sarah couldn't help but curse, "That old witch. Well, at least her impatience is working in your favor for once."
"So, are you going to the courthouse?"
"Yes."
"When?"
"The day after tomorrow."
Sarah still looked anxious.
"I'm coming with you."
"You don't have to."
"I'm just worried about you having to face that Lowell bastard again. It's going to mess with your head."
Jocelyn stayed quiet.
Seeing him again only meant saying goodbye forever.
...
Jocelyn ran into Adrian outside the courthouse.
His hand was wrapped in thick bandages.
She knew the cut wasn't deep at all; swathing it like a major injury was beyond dramatic.
