The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 307

"What? Am I not allowed to drop by?" Quentin countered.

"Not at all. I just mean, with you practically running the city, I'm shocked you found the time to grace our humble office with your presence."

Quentin let out a hearty laugh.

"Julian, you've definitely developed a silver tongue since you moved here."

He then offered an explanation.

"I just happened to be in the area and had a few minutes to spare, so I figured I'd pop in."

"But mostly, I'm here to remind you about something."

"Name it."

Quentin patted him firmly on the shoulder.

"Did you forget about our little arrangement?"

Julian caught on immediately.

"I've been tied up with work."

Quentin's eyes deliberately flicked over to Jocelyn.

"Right. Very tied up."

Catching the obvious teasing in his tone, she flushed in embarrassment.

"My wife's been asking about you nonstop. She wants to know when you're finally going to come over for dinner."

"Last time you asked for a favor to help out Miss Evans, you promised you'd come by the house. Yet, the second the job was done, you completely vanished."

"Seems my position as your favorite uncle has been replaced by..."

"Quentin!"

Knowing exactly what he was about to say, Julian quickly cut him off.

"Tonight."

Quentin flashed a highly amused, knowing smile.

"Tonight, what?"

Julian cleared his throat awkwardly.

"I'll come over for dinner tonight."

Quentin feigned a look of displeasure.

"You make it sound like I'm holding you hostage. Whatever, whatever. I won't take up any more of your precious time."

Jocelyn couldn't help but notice the profound level of respect Julian held for this man.

Their dynamic was surprisingly reminiscent of a father and son.

Around the Commissioner, Julian shed his usual commanding aura and seemed almost delightfully tame.

And his smiles were completely genuine.

"I'll call her right now and let her know I'm coming over tonight," Julian assured him.
