"Last night, I stayed in Audrey's room because Leo seemed a little unwell and was fussy. He would only quiet down when I held him."
Jocelyn raised an eyebrow, a faint smile playing on her lips. "How nice. A father-son bond."
Adrian, lost in his own explanation, continued, "So it was just because of the baby. Don't get the wrong idea."
Jocelyn sensed something was off.
Adrian was explaining himself to her. That was a novelty.
"Why are you suddenly explaining this to me?"
Adrian said, "I don't want you to misunderstand."
Jocelyn sneered inwardly.
The mere fact that Adrian spent the night in his sister-in-law's room was scandalous enough, regardless of what actually happened behind closed doors.
She didn't believe for a second that Adrian was completely oblivious to the concept of boundaries.
When it came down to it, he cared about the child, but he cared more about Audrey.
Jocelyn was tired of his nonsense. "I'm leaving. I might be back late tonight." she said.
Adrian grabbed her arm.
"I have something else to say to you."
Jocelyn hid her impatience. "Go on."
Adrian asked, "Do you really want to divorce me?"
"Yes", Jocelyn thought.
But she couldn't say that out loud.
She couldn't wait for Adrian to divorce her. But not now.
A quick divorce would be detrimental to her plans.
Jocelyn deftly deflected, "You're the one who makes me feel like you want a divorce."
Adrian let go of her arm, seemingly relieved. "I have no intention of divorcing you."
His words didn't move Jocelyn in the slightest.
In fact, they felt like a burden.
She cautiously probed, "Wouldn't it be better for you if we got a divorce? You could marry Audrey, and the three of you could be a family."
At these words, Adrian's face immediately darkened.
"What are you talking about! What 'family of three'? How could I possibly marry Audrey? How could I face Arthur if I did that?"
There it was again!
Jocelyn gave a humorless smile and said deliberately, "How will you make it up to me? You won't even give me the Astoria apartment you promised."
Adrian was speechless for a moment.
"I can talk to Audrey about it again."
Jocelyn wanted to slap him.
Had Adrian really forgotten that she, Jocelyn, was his legal wife?
A wife asking her husband for something, and the husband has to consult with his mistress?
What a joke!
"Don't drink too much."
The concerned reminder came from behind her.
Jocelyn didn't turn back.
Belated concern can't thaw a heart that has already turned to ice. What use is an umbrella once the rain has stopped?
Maria, holding a mop, passed by and glanced at Adrian, who was still watching Jocelyn leave.
