The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 34

"My, our Jocelyn is just a natural beauty, absolutely stunning. If my good-for-nothing son could marry a woman half as wonderful as her, I'd be thanking my lucky stars every single day."

Adrian tore his gaze away, his brow furrowing slightly. "Maria, don't you think you're talking a bit too much?"

Maria replied, "Oh, dear. Adrian, are you going to kick me out too?"

Adrian was speechless.

Maria had been with Adrian more than Michelle had.

So in Adrian's heart, Maria was more than just a housekeeper.

Adrian suddenly realized that habit was a truly terrifying thing.

Just as he had grown accustomed to Jocelyn's presence.

The thought that one day they might go their separate ways left him feeling strangely empty.

Jocelyn delivered the necklace to the jewelry store.

Strangely, the owner didn't even open the box, simply taking it and putting it away.

Jocelyn was quite surprised. "Aren't you going to inspect it?"

The owner paused. "No need. You seem like an honest and trustworthy person, miss. I'm sure there's no need."

Jocelyn felt that something was off, but she couldn't put her finger on it.

She decided to let it go. After all, the money was in her account.

Who cares?

With that business taken care of, Jocelyn was about to call Sarah.

But then a call came in from Diana.

"Jo! Come home quickly! Something's happened to your father!"

Before Jocelyn could ask what was wrong, the line went dead.

Jocelyn's heart sank. She rushed home as fast as she could.

The main gate was closed, and everything was quiet.

But when she pushed open the door, Jocelyn was stunned.

It wasn't his style to borrow from a loan shark unless he was absolutely desperate.

In Marcus's eyes, the company's current situation wasn't desperate yet.

Because they still had the resort and this house, The Crestview Residence, as a safety net.

If things got really bad, he would definitely sell those two properties.

A guilty look flashed across Diana's face.

Jocelyn understood immediately.

Before she could say anything, Diana rushed to defend herself.

"I had no choice! Your father kept talking about selling the resort and this house. If he did that, he would have nothing left to live for. Jo, could you bear to see your father live the rest of his life in misery?"

At this point, blame was pointless.

Jocelyn's first thought was of the six hundred million dollars.

"Don't tell me that six hundred million was from a loan shark?"
