Audrey froze for a long moment.
"You're Julian Vance?"
Her knowledge of Julian was limited to what she had heard from the Lowells. Claire, in particular, always praised him to the skies, practically making him out to be a god. Audrey couldn't help but look him up and down.
So this was Julian Vance.
He was indeed outstanding and undeniably charismatic. He certainly had the capital to make women chase after him. But knowing he was Adrian's biggest rival immediately soured her impression of him. He couldn't compare to her precious Adrian at all.
Jocelyn, of course, had no idea that to Audrey, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She simply assumed the other woman was stunned into silence.
She exchanged a glance with Julian and prepared to leave. But just as she took a step, Audrey suddenly spoke up.
"You deliberately joined his rival's company just to get his attention, didn't you?"
Audrey's imagination was truly something else.
Jocelyn sighed in amusement. "Yep, you guessed it again. So, make sure you run back and tell Adrian so he can come find me and confirm it."
Audrey turned to storm off in a huff.
"Miss Preston," Julian called out.
Audrey looked back, her eyes full of hostility.
Julian spoke in a remarkably calm, indifferent tone. "Congratulations on your upcoming wedding to Mr. Lowell."
Audrey was momentarily caught off guard, unsure why he would suddenly say that.
"When the time comes, I'll be sure to send you both a grand gift."
Audrey said nothing, turning on her heel and marching away with a bitter scowl.
Jocelyn smiled at Julian. "Want to make a bet?"
"On what?" he asked.
"On whether she'll actually tell Adrian that I work for you."
Julian chuckled. "Alright, let's bet."
