"Mr. Vance is very protective of you."
Jocelyn knew she meant no harm. "Yeah, he's a good guy."
"He's not just good to you because he's a good guy. He does it because he wants to."
Jocelyn paused. "What are you trying to say?"
Lana smiled gently. "Nothing bad. I just think the two of you look very good together."
"He has..."
Jocelyn stopped herself and offered a polite smile. "He's my boss and a good friend. We share a lot of the same interests, so we get along well. That's all there is to it."
Lana chuckled softly, dropping the subject. "Mr. Lowell will eventually find out you went to Vanguard Tech."
"I don't care."
"He might come looking for you because of it."
"Whatever."
They were in the same industry now, and the city wasn't that big. She and Adrian would likely cross paths often. Just not as husband and wife. As rivals.
A flicker of sadness crossed Lana's eyes. "He's already fixated on you."
Fixated enough that when he took her with frantic desperation, it was Jocelyn's name he breathed into the dark.
Jocelyn gave a hollow laugh. "Adrian is heartless. He doesn't genuinely care about anyone. He's just bitter because he suddenly lost something he thought he owned."
Lana fell silent for a moment. "Maybe you're right."
The conversation hit a dead end.
"I won't take up any more of your time," Lana finally said. "Thank you again."
Jocelyn hesitated. "Are you..."
Lana offered a faint smile. "You want to know if I've fallen in love with him?"
