"Didn't you say you wanted to try? Why don't we try this instead?"
Sarah looked into his dark, predatory gaze. She hesitated for a second before answering.
"Alright. Let's try."
Liam's eyes darkened further, raking over her collarbones and the soft swell of her breasts. Raw desire flared in his chest.
Sarah's heart began to race.
She squeezed her eyes shut, threw caution to the wind, and straddled his lap.
Liam gave a seductive, knowing smile. He wrapped an arm tightly around her waist and crashed his lips onto hers.
They kissed recklessly, the heat between them surging out of control.
But right at the precipice, Liam slammed on the brakes.
He pulled away, his chest heaving, a sheen of sweat coating his skin.
It was just virginity. Once it was gone, it was gone. They were both adults. Even if it was just a casual hookup, what was the big deal?
That was what he had told himself right up until the last second.
But when push came to shove, he simply couldn't go through with it. As for why, he couldn't exactly put it into words.
His body was screaming for release. But his heart wouldn't let him cross that line.
Stopping halfway when the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife—Liam felt the agonizing frustration of it burning through his veins.
The bathroom door clicked shut.
Sarah curled up tight under the blanket, listening to the shower running in the next room. A chaotic storm of emotions tore through her, and she couldn't tell which one was the strongest.
Him pulling away at the very end... she had never expected that.
She knew how agonizing that had to be for a guy who was clearly aroused.
Half an hour later, Liam stepped out of the bathroom.
A towel was slung low around his waist. Drops of water trailed down his chest, making him look unfairly attractive.
He slid back under the covers, flicking his lighter open and shut with a sharp "clack-clack" sound.
"You're a coward, Liam," Sarah muttered to the wall.
Liam's hand froze. A humorless smile touched his lips. "If you had done this before, I would've taken you. We could have just messed around."
