The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 342

Brother?

Jeremy?

"I'm sorry, I don't have a brother."

The officer paused. "Isn't Jeremy Evans your brother?"

"I've severed all ties with the Evans family," Jocelyn replied flatly. "So, he is not my brother. Whatever it is, call his legal guardian."

The officer sounded conflicted.

"But he insists we call you. He was adamant that you're his sister."

Jocelyn frowned.

"I am not his sister."

The officer's patience wore thin.

"Listen, he got into a fight and is currently giving his statement. It would be best if you came down to sort this out. Don't make our jobs harder."

Jocelyn drove to the precinct.

From a distance, she spotted Jeremy sitting there with a bruised and swollen face, and a wave of surrealness hit her.

It had been so long since she had seen him that she almost forgot he existed.

She walked up to him.

Jeremy looked up, offering a lopsided grin.

"I knew you couldn't stand to leave me here. I knew you'd come."

Jocelyn's brow furrowed in annoyance.

"Did you forget? I'm no longer part of your family. Diana completely disowned me. Why did you have them call me?"

Jeremy touched a bruise on his forehead and winced.

"That was a deal between you and Mom, not me. I didn't kick you out, so you're still my sister."

Jocelyn glanced at the guy sitting on the opposite bench.

His face was equally battered; the two of them were a matched set of misery.

"What happened?"

Jeremy leaned back lazily.

"Ran into him at a bar. He was running his mouth, I didn't like his attitude, so we threw down."

"You threw the first punch?"

Jeremy shrugged carelessly.

"Yeah. I put up with him for way too long. Honestly, I should have hit him sooner."

Jocelyn ruthlessly kicked his leg.

"Ow!" Jeremy yelped.

"That hurts! I'm injured there too!"

Jocelyn didn't feel a shred of pity. She turned away and walked over to the other man.

The man looked to be about Jeremy's age. The blood at the corner of his mouth had dried, and he hadn't even bothered to wipe it.
