It took Gideon a long moment to process her words.
"You're Storm?"
Jocelyn arched an eyebrow. "Mhm."
Gideon looked highly skeptical.
"How can you prove it?"
"Will a witness do?"
"A witness?"
"King, the leader of the Alliance, can vouch for me."
Gideon was stunned again.
"He... You guys..."
He couldn't believe his luck. King and Storm—two of the most legendary, universally worshipped figures in the hacking world—were just casually intersecting with his life on a random night?
Jocelyn checked her watch.
"Unfortunately, King is currently out of town at a robotics expo and won't be back for a few days, so you'll have to wait."
"It's getting late. Let's go buy you some clothes so you can change and head home."
Home...
A flicker of sorrow passed over Gideon's face.
He didn't have a home.
Once he left the orphanage, he never went back.
After years of drifting, he had grown used to being entirely alone.
What was a home even supposed to feel like?
Noticing his shift in mood, Jocelyn stood up.
"Let's go."
"Where?"
"I told you, to buy clothes."
"I don't need them."
Jocelyn started walking. "Whether you need them or not isn't up to you. Hurry up. I have to get back, or someone at home is going to worry."
While she had been working late, Maria had already called to check on her.
If she delayed any longer, the older woman would panic.
Ever since Sylvia was killed in the hit-and-run, Maria had been extra protective of Jocelyn, desperate to make up for past mistakes.
Jocelyn took Gideon to a nearby clothing store and bought him a whole new outfit.
Thick pants, a warm base layer, and a fleece-lined leather jacket.
Once he changed, he looked like a completely different person.
Jocelyn looked him up and down approvingly.
