Jocelyn thought about it for a moment.
"Is there an expiration date on this favor?"
"No."
"Great. I'll save it until I figure out what I want."
"Deal."
Julian checked the time.
"It's getting late. Go to sleep. Don't stay up coding."
"Oh, by the way, I need to take tomorrow morning off," Jocelyn added.
"Done."
Jocelyn laughed. "Are you always this easygoing as a boss? You didn't even ask why."
Julian's response was completely earnest.
"With me, you have absolute freedom."
The air suddenly felt a tiny bit too intimate.
Julian cleared his throat gently.
"I mean, the company doesn't micromanage our employees' personal lives. If you need time off, you take it."
Jocelyn smiled.
"I have a check-up."
Because of some spotting earlier in her pregnancy, the doctor had told her to come back for a follow-up.
It was finally time.
Julian paused for a few seconds.
"Let me know the results when you're done."
"Will do. You get some rest too. Goodnight."
The moment she hung up, her phone rang again.
It was Diana.
Jocelyn couldn't be bothered and declined the call.
But Diana kept calling, back-to-back.
Jocelyn almost turned off her phone, but she couldn't bring herself to do it.
Ever since Marcus died, she was terrified of turning off her device, fearing that someone close to her might need her in an emergency.
She finally answered, putting it on speaker.
Diana's enraged screech echoed through the room.
"Jocelyn! What is wrong with you?! Your brother was in trouble and called for help, and you just took the guy who assaulted him and left your own flesh and blood sitting in a police station?!"
The next morning.
Jocelyn went to the hospital for her check-up.
The results were surprisingly fantastic.
The doctor confirmed that all her levels were perfect, and the baby was growing healthy and stable.
The malnutrition she previously suffered from was completely gone.
She truly had to thank Maria for all the incredible meals.
And Julian, who constantly had Ethan drop off premium, organic groceries.
"Audrey, isn't that the bitch who ruined everything?"
Audrey had been feeling unwell for the past couple of days.
Claire had accompanied her to the hospital today.
Following Claire's pointed finger, Audrey looked over.
It really was Jocelyn.
"What is she doing in the maternity ward?"
Claire, lacking any real life experience but armed with a vicious tongue, sneered.
"Probably slept around, caught something nasty, and now she's here begging for a cure."
