Jocelyn sat in the driver's seat, thinking for a long time.
If she could get the money from Julian Vance now, then paying back the six hundred million within two days would be no problem at all.
But she and Julian were scheduled to sign the contract next week. She couldn't very well ask him to pay her before the contract was even signed.
There was only one other option.
Adrian Lowell.
Jocelyn called Adrian.
When he answered, she didn't waste any time.
"My dad needs two hundred and fifty million urgently. Can I borrow it from you? I'll pay you back within a week."
There was a long silence on the other end of the line.
"Given the current state of the Evans Group, I doubt you could pay it back in a year, let alone a week."
Jocelyn said, "I can sign a loan agreement."
Adrian said, "What good is a loan agreement for money you can't pay back?"
Jocelyn's heart sank.
Adrian was a businessman through and through. When it came to money, he was always extra cautious.
Jocelyn had no choice but to humble herself. "For the sake of our marriage, please help me this one time. I'm... begging you."
After another long pause, Adrian finally said, "Let me think about it."
Jocelyn asked, "How long do you need to think?"
Adrian said, "I'll call you back in a bit."
The line went dead.
"Even though Jocelyn is Marcus's daughter, she's married to you now, which makes her a part of the Lowell family. As such, she shouldn't be putting you in this difficult position, knowing that the money is unlikely to be returned."
"I don't think Jocelyn is thinking about you at all. She just sees you as a rich man, but she doesn't know that you're under a lot of pressure too, Adrian."
"If my father can secure that piece of land, then your partnership with him will officially begin. You'll need to invest a lot of money then, and it won't be a small amount."
"But she is my wife. If I just stand by and do nothing, it doesn't feel right."
Audrey's hand paused for a moment, a wave of jealousy washing over her.
"It's because she's your wife that she should be more understanding of your situation. Besides..."
A flicker of disdain, almost imperceptible, crossed Audrey's face.
"She's not even Marcus's biological daughter. I think the Evans family is just using her status as Mrs. Lowell to get you to solve their financial problems, and then they'll use the fact that you're their daughter's husband to get out of paying you back."
