"Adrian, just think about it. You'll see that what I'm saying makes sense." Audrey said.
Jocelyn waited for an hour.
Finally, she received a reply from Adrian.
It wasn't a phone call, but a text message.
[Jo, the company is preparing to build a new production facility, which requires a lot of capital, so I can't spare that much money. Sorry.]
It was a formal and distant message, as if Jocelyn were just a casual acquaintance.
Jocelyn closed her eyes and leaned back against the seat, a tightness in her chest.
"Jocelyn, oh, Jocelyn, this is the man you once loved. Were you blind back then?"
When Julian Vance received Jocelyn's call, he was in a meeting at a branch office.
The meeting was temporarily suspended.
Julian stepped out of the room and pressed the answer button. The voice on the other end of the line was a little subdued.
"Mr. Vance, there's something... I'd like to discuss with you."
Julian's lips parted slightly. "Go on."
Jocelyn said, "Could we possibly sign our contract tomorrow? Or... or could you possibly advance me the money?"
Julian asked, "You need money urgently?"
Jocelyn was direct. "Yes, very urgently."
Julian said, "I'm at a branch office out of town right now for a meeting. I won't be back until the day after tomorrow, so I'm afraid we won't be able to sign the contract in time."
Jocelyn took a deep breath. The last glimmer of hope began to fade.
"So I can just transfer the money to you first. I'll notify the finance department to process it in a moment. If all goes well, it should be in your account by tomorrow morning."
Jocelyn was stunned for a moment. It felt like she was in a daze, that this wasn't real.
He just agreed like that?
Jocelyn was so taken aback that she forgot to even say thank you.
Julian said, "Is that enough money? If not, I can prepay you for the game maintenance and updates as well."
Sarah said, "It doesn't hurt to look. Come on, tell me."
Jocelyn, unable to resist her pestering, relented. "Alright, alright, I'll tell you."
"His face is..."
Jocelyn suddenly froze.
A tall, striking figure walked in.
Liam Bancroft.
Jocelyn nudged Sarah, complaining, "You said he wasn't coming..."
Sarah grinned. "If I hadn't said that, would you have come?"
Liam nodded to Jocelyn, and she gave a polite nod in return.
He strode toward her.
Sarah whispered in Jocelyn's ear, "There's really no need to avoid him. He's over it. Why are you still hung up on it?"
