Kyle let the sentence trail off.
But the pure, unadulterated contempt in his eyes was enough to make Adrian's blood boil.
"Your boss? Who the hell is your boss?"
Before Jocelyn could stop him, Kyle blurted it out.
"You don't have the clearance to know."
Jocelyn let out a quiet breath of relief.
Okay, he just got significantly more adorable.
Adrian choked on his own rage, his eyes darkening as he snapped his attention back to Jocelyn.
"Since the divorce, you seem to be living the high life. I have to admit, I'm surprised."
She rolled her eyes.
"I've surprised you plenty of times by now. Shouldn't you be used to it?"
Adrian forced himself to calm down.
"Tell him to wait outside. I want to talk to you."
"He stays. Besides, we have absolutely nothing to discuss."
"About Claire. Let her go. You can name your price. Whatever you want, we'll give it to you."
Jocelyn knew exactly what he was going to say.
Name her price?
Whatever she wanted?
Bullshit.
She didn't want a single thing from them.
"There is no negotiation. This goes through the legal system. My lawyer is handling everything. If you have any questions, you can direct them to him."
"Jo..."
"Shut up."
Hearing that nickname slip past his lips made her stomach turn.
Adrian furrowed his brow, letting out a heavy sigh.
"Claire is my only sister."
Even if he completely disapproved of her reckless, entitled behavior.
"The Lowell family raised her to be a monster. She knows you'll always shield her and clean up her messes, which is why she thinks she's untouchable! She treats the law like a joke!"
"If someone like her isn't taught a lesson, it's only a matter of time before she destroys someone else's life."
"I'm doing this for my mother, and I'm doing it to get a menace off the streets."
Adrian's eyes darkened with fury.
"Watch your mouth! Claire is spoiled, yes, but she's not evil."
Jocelyn didn't back down for a second.
"Stop lying to yourself. She is rotten to the core, and you're still defending her!"
"Use your damn brain, Adrian! Do you have any moral compass left? Your sister is a lost cause. Wake up, before you go down with her!"
"If that happens, the Lowell family really will be out of viable heirs, and you'll end up handing your entire empire over to a stranger!"
Adrian's expression turned stone-cold.
"You don't need to worry about that. The Lowell family has plenty of heirs. No matter what, it'll never fall into the hands of an outsider. I have a son."
Jocelyn scoffed, a dark smirk pulling at her lips.
"Are you entirely sure that boy actually has Lowell blood?"
