The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 399

The moment the words left her mouth, Jocelyn regretted it.

It wasn't the right time to drop that bombshell yet.

Fortunately, Adrian's mind was still stuck in the past.

"You're still hung up on Leo? You're actually trying to tell me he's not mine? Is that the best you can do to get a rise out of me?"

Suppressing the urge to laugh in his face, she smoothly changed the subject.

"I am not letting this go. I'll see Claire in court."

With that, she turned to walk away.

Adrian stepped into her path, blocking the exit.

"Just... for the sake of the marriage we used to have."

She tilted her head, scoffing in open contempt.

"You really shouldn't have brought that up. Reminding me of our marriage just makes me want to destroy her even more."

Adrian stood speechless, his frustration boiling over into pure rage.

"What do you want from me! Do you really have to send her to prison? If she gets a criminal record at her age, her life is over!"

"She should have thought of that before she got behind the wheel. What will she do? She has you, doesn't she? She has the whole Lowell family backing her. You have more money than God. Keeping a useless convict fed shouldn't put too much of a dent in your trust fund."

"You—!"

Livid, Adrian lunged forward, closing the distance between them.

Kyle shot out an arm and shoved him backward with brutal force.

His expression remained utterly unreadable.

"Back off."

Adrian was vibrating with fury.

He had never been forced to beg and grovel like this in his entire life!

And it was all because of his stupid, reckless sister!

If he had known this would happen, he never would have let her move back home!

But the damage was done, and he couldn't just walk away.

On top of everything else, Eleanor was breathing down his neck, demanding he get Claire out of this mess. If he failed, his grandmother would never forgive him.

The stress of the entire situation was making him physically sick.

His only play was to bury Jocelyn in compensation until she signed a letter of forgiveness, forcing the judge to hand down a lighter sentence.

With the right bribes and legal maneuvering, he might even be able to get it reduced to probation.

Then the nightmare would finally be over.

But looking at the absolute hatred in Jocelyn's eyes, he knew it was a lost cause.
