The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 437

Jocelyn quickly steadied her nerves, refusing to look at him.

As her pregnancy progressed, she had started wearing loose-fitting clothes just to be safe.

"Ever since I left the Lowell house, I've been eating well and sleeping great. Naturally, I've put on a few pounds."

Adrian's response was completely out of character.

"It's good that you gained a little. You used to be too thin. You look even more beautiful like this."

Jocelyn gave him a strained, thoroughly fake smile.

"Adrian, I'd prefer it if you spoke to me the way you used to. This sudden change in attitude is giving me whiplash."

Adrian murmured, "People change."

Jocelyn didn't reply.

They walked a few more steps in silence.

Adrian spoke up again.

"I'm moving to a new house."

Jocelyn said flatly, "You don't need to update me on your life."

Adrian didn't push it.

His subdued behavior was almost alarming.

Inside the infusion room.

Penelope was dozing off.

Jocelyn walked over and whispered, "Penelope."

Penelope opened her eyes.

"Oh, Jo..."

She blinked, startled to see Adrian trailing behind her.

She was genuinely surprised.

"Mr. Lowell? What brings you here?"

Instead of answering, Adrian asked.

"Are you feeling any better?"

Even though Penelope despised the Lowell family, she maintained her elegant manners.

"Much better now, thanks to Jo rushing me over."

Adrian offered smoothly, "Is there anything you'd like to eat? I can go grab something for you."

Penelope offered a polite smile.

"That's very kind of you, but no thank you, Mr. Lowell."

Adrian insisted, "Please, call me Adrian."

Penelope's smile didn't quite reach her eyes.

"The last time I saw your grandmother, she looked so healthy and full of life. It's truly a tragedy that she passed away so suddenly."

A flicker of emotion crossed Adrian's eyes.

"I suppose that's just fate."

Penelope let out a heavy sigh.

"Indeed. Fate is unpredictable. We never know what tomorrow might bring, which is why we must cherish every moment we have. Life is incredibly fragile."
